At the train station, there is always a police officer with his german shephard police dog. I was waiting for a train last night and was pretty close to the officer and the dog.

The dog was sprawled out on the floor looking utterly bored and silly. A group of people who kind of looked like they weren't up to any good were about to walk by, and the officer said "Look lively." The dog jumped up, the hair on it's back stood on end, and it was growling and baring it's teeth. The group of people scurried by and almost jumped onto their train. When they were gone, the officer said "Chill," and the dog flopped back down.

It was hilarious! Could someone tell me if many police dogs are trained to do this, or was this something that this particular officer has done with this particular dog?

I have a 10 month old lab and he is always licking us. Does this mean he is like kissing us. You can just pet him and he will lick your hand. Or when we get home he he so excited and will lick you.

to advise as they are not a Kennel Club registered breed. Searched internet and all I can find are sites in America. Do you know of any breeder or Rat Terrier pups for sale in the UK, preferlably central Scotland?

I am curious to know what in door dog owners do with their dogs while they are away from the house. Do you put them in the garage, laundry room, or do you let them run free and destroy your back yard? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone ever tried time outs for your dog? I have recently started sending my dog to her kennel when she does something bad. I tell her to stay there, and I don't close the door. I stay in another room. After a couple minutes I say ok, and she can come out. I've already noticed a great response to it. When she starts to bite on her leash, I say "do you want to be sent to your kennel" and she stops immediately. Has anyone else tried this and had good results?

First, can there be two alphas? For instance, if two adults own a dog, would both adults be an alpha?

Second, in a household with multiple dogs and an alpha owner, do they form a heirarchy amongst themselves? Or is the owner the alpha and all the other dogs have equal non-alpha status?

I am talking about problems that haven't been diagonoised by a vet. E.g. my dog has been puking for 14 hours. Also asking what kind of medicine to give a dog for pain etc.

My 5 year old black lab has been urinating quite frequently, usually once an hour. Normally she can go a few hours without going out. Her water bowl is always empty too. Other than that she is not behaving any differently. I was just curious if urinating frequently was a sign of pregnancy for dogs.

does anyone else feel RAWHIDE should be eliminated from the "treats menu"?? i don't think people realize how bad it is for their dogs. i recently found out that it's treated with fromaldahyde (sp?) to give it any shelf life. i know it's not meant to be ingested and if a dog doesn't chew it into small enough pieces they can't pass it. is there any way we can get it eliminated?

My Giant Schnauzer is about 10 weeks old, at what age should I begin getting his coat cut, stripped, etc? He has been doing great with basic grooming but I was curious as to when to get an actual cut? He is a rough/german coat, not the thick american style..

She is a 2 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She has had approximately 5 seasons since she started her periods. She can become quite moody and swollen. And I know she's uncomfortable because she lays differently to usual and responds amazingly to the odd massage!!! Any ideas?!!!
