does anyone else feel RAWHIDE should be eliminated from the "treats menu"?? i don't think people realize how bad it is for their dogs. i recently found out that it's treated with fromaldahyde (sp?) to give it any shelf life. i know it's not meant to be ingested and if a dog doesn't chew it into small enough pieces they can't pass it. is there any way we can get it eliminated?

I stopped giving my dogs rawhide years ago. I got tired of cleaning up vomit. My dogs would lay down and eat the things till gone, then get sick. I use natural bones and Kongs now.

If I could convince people how bad rawhides are I would be very happy. I have seen so many of these pulled out of dogs, for the average of about 1000 dollars, and I dont think its fair that the average consumer has no idea how dangerous these are. Same goes for "Greenies"(break down even less than rawhide) and pigs ears (not as likely to get stuck but the cause of many cases of pancreatitis)

I totally agree! Even American made rawhides are treated with things that aren't good for dogs. Add in the choking hazards and the possible blockages from pieces too big to pass, I don't use any rawhide products.

I think it should at least be more regulated. Did you know that we get rawhide shipped to the states from other countries, where they don't have to treat it the same way we do. My dog ended up being allergic to anything not made in the states because of various treatments and chemicals they used on it. The other bad thing is if people don't watch their dog, the dog can consume to much of it. The rawhide ends up expanding in the stomach and the dog gets sick. I don't feed my dog rawhide anymore. I found pigrolls, which are made from pighide, and they work much better for her, along with pig ears. She also gets real bones to chew on. I don't miss the rawhide or the mess associated with it in any way.

Yes, i think it should be banned. But what i'd like to know is why people who are against rawhide seem to think pig ears are ok, it's still HIDE, the skin of another animal. There is no difference and some people don't seem to get it.

YES i feel they should be eliminated and so should pig ears and greenies.
There is alot of things on the market that is for dogs but is harmful to dogs but guess what it is still there. otc wormers can kill your dog, otc flea medicine can kill your dog and some doggy shampoos have been known to be fatal also, but they are still there.
what about the dog foods our dogs eat? The ingrediants in the grocery dog foods have poisonous chemicals and preservatives in them that cause our pets health issues, but of course instead of improving to a better quality they are multi billion dollar companies that do not give a rats *** about our pets, it is all about the money.
Believe it or not THEY LOOK at it like this, pets are not humans so why should we care if it kills off the over populated pet population? If they did not look at it that way then why don't they try to make their products safe instead of keep producing unsafe items for our pets. IT IS the money.

I agree raw hide should never be given to dogs. Unfortunately, the power and money of the companies that sell it will keep it on the shelves in stores. I don't forsee it ever being "outlawed".

we should get rid of it but I don't know how to get if off the market, maybe if everyone stopped buying it then there wouldn't be a demand for it.
