american cocker spanial?

hi, my neighbour had a dog years ago, now she wants another one. she says that her dog was an american cocker spanial but i cannot find this breed description. does anyone know if there is such a breed?

In the US it is known as a Cocker Spaniel, your neighbor is going by the AKC Breed name, since there is also and English Cocker Spaniel. Tell her to make sure she gets it from a reputable breeder, Cockers were at the top of "America's top Pets" list for almost 20yrs and have been over bred and inbred, which has hurt their physical appearance and temperament. You may also want to tell her she may want to look into an English Cocker Spaniel. Not well known in the states but beautiful, intelligent, and good natured.

Ya, there is such thing as an American Cocker Spaniel, and there's just the regular cocker spaniel. I'm not to sure what the difference is though. Go to petfinder.com. I'm guessing there will a few there.

In the US there is the Cocker Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel. In Canada (and most other countries, I believe) they are called American Cocker Spaniel and English Cocker Spaniel. In Britain they are called American Cocker Spaniel and Cocker Spaniel.
