Hi Peter, I've just had a look on the ePupz website & they have a category for Rat Terrier (no puppies listed) but they do have a breeder listed - maybe you could contact them - even though they're based down in Devon, they may be willing to give you advice?:
http://www.epupz.co.uk/search/puppies_for_sale.asp?breed=Rat+Terrier&area=all&st=5&Submit=Search+++
However, I notice that in the comments it doesn't say 'rat terrier' instead it says 'patterdale terrier' - which I don't think is quite the same thing - though they seem to be around the same size:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patterdale_Terrier
There are Patterdale puppies advertised on ePupz:
http://www.epupz.co.uk/search/puppies_for_sale.asp?breed=Patterdale+Terrier&area=all&st=1&Submit=Search+++
& quite a few breeders:
http://www.epupz.co.uk/search/puppies_for_sale.asp?breed=Patterdale+Terrier&area=all&st=5&Submit=Search+++
Hope this helps

They aren't recognised by the American KC either, I imagine because they are in the same position as Jack Russells over here.
Of course, anyone could breed a litter of terrier type pups & call them Rat Terriers, so beware if you see any for sale in this country! Looks like you'll have to settle for a JR.

I know what breed you are talking about, but they are very rare in this country. It may be worth looking on the net for any breed clubs, or if the only ones you can find are in america, ask the american breeders if they know any UK breeders..they may be able to help. I wish you luck on your search...its going to be hard..you may have to import a dog from US!

I would check with your RSPCA and see if there are any breed rescues in your area - I know there are several here in America.
Since the breed was developed in the US and is only just now getting AKC recognition, I'm not surprised that the UKC doesn't recognize it yet. But that doesn't mean that there aren't any over there.
If nothing else, maybe contact the Rat Terrier Club of America and ask them if there are any near you?
Good luck!

Sorry, I don't have a clue where you could get a rat terrier, but we have one and she is the smartest dog ever. We talk to her like another human, and she understands. She is very protective of our family and doesn't like strangers or anyone in our house for that matter. But besides that she is a sweetie. Good luck with your search!

Never heard of such a breed. Are you sure you are not confusing the title with a terrier which by nature chases and destroys rats. If so then any of the terrier breed will suit your purpose.

I just gave ours up to the Humaine Society. Cute dog, just happened to turn our whole house in her own personal toilet. Beds, clothes, daughters room everywhere. I couldn't take it anymore. Wild breed. Love to dig. Be careful. I would get a Jack Russell.
