My daughter's puppy died when a bookcase fell on it and she found her dead pup. How do I console her so she isn't totally traumatized by this experience? She lobbied to get the dog for a year and we'd only had him three months. We are all very attached to him.

i agree with the first answer show here the poem Rainbow Bridge. It is a poem that all animal lovers alike even those who don't have a dog,do have a dog or have had on pass away for whatever reasons would appreciate. I believe that even though it was a accident and tell her that it was in no way her fault and that her puppy will still be watching over her and is waiting to see her many, many years from now and will be able to chase things and play and wait for her at the golden gates. Also, I believe that when God closes a door he opens a window.

I am so sorry
I am going thought the same thing. Saturday our 11 month old puppy died. I told my six year old daughter that the puppy went to heaven to be with her dad. She seem to understand a little more each day. It helps that her dad is in heaven with the puppy. When she asked why god took her puppy, I said maybe her daddy was lonely, and needed a puppy
I full understand most children have both parents living. If she was close to a grandparent, maybe it will help.
I also told her in the spring, we will look for a new puppy. I took her it will be a different kind. If your daughter is old, tell her in a few months, when she is ready, she can get a new puppy. Maybe another breed.
I am so sorry for you lost
Your poor daughter.

Just let her know that what happened to the puppy was a tragic accident and in no way is her fault. Let her know that the puppy knew how loved he was by her and will probably miss her most of all. Make sure you let her know that you are all sorry he's gone and that you too miss him. Let her know that it's not only o.k. to feel sad for him, but that it's totally normal. Finally let her know that the puppy is in heaven now and since he knew how much she loved him, he is now her guardian angel and he is watching over her from heaven.
I really hope this helps!

I am so very sorry. I dont know how to tell you to help her with this. I am a dog lover also, my chineese pug went missing 4 days before his birthday in Aug 2006.My heart refuses to replace him but I have found a new puppy that I will pick up in April. He was born yesterday. I saw this and even though I have no answers for you I did want to tell you how sorry I am.

I wish I had the magic words to help your daughter. Just be there for her and give her the room to grieve for her lost puppy. There are no reasons for accidents so trying to find one is useless. It will take a good amount of time for her to get over this so just be there for her and be supportive. Now is not the time to get a new pet for her. She will let you know when that is.

I am so very sorry for your loss.
