I am flying with my 3 year old Cocker Spaniel from Mexico to Paris. I have read lots of tips but would like to know any personal experiences. Has anyone flown their cocker spaniel or other dog? Cockers have sensitive ears- will the flight be painful for him?

The dog should be fine because it should be in a pressurized cabin. You want to fly it in a crate that has holes on the sides AND back to meet the international guidelines. Make sure you leave feeding and watering instructions on the carrier and some of the dogs food with him. Also, make sure that he pees and poops in Mexico before you guys leave for your flight. If you have a stinky shirt (like one that you use to do laundry or work out in) leave that in the crate for the dog. Then he will feel closer to you and should be calmer. DO NOT TRANQUILIZE THE DOG. If something were to happen, the dog would not be able to fend for itself, and could actually become more defensive to the flight crew if he was not "all there". Make sure you have contact info on the kennel for people both in Mexico, and in Paris so that if something happens to the dog, or the dog makes a flight and you don't, then people can be contacted. Also, make sure that if you are flying in the winter, to fly during the day, and if you are flying in summer, fly in the afternoon. Try to avoid any extreme temperatures. Expect the dog to have accidents in the crate. Leave a nice blanket or two and maybe some toys or a chewey (that you know he won't choke on) in the crate for him too. Usually they just wind up falling asleep and do fine. But those are some tips. One other thing that I do, is I put ice in the water container when we leave, so that if it gets knocked, it is less likely to spill, but then it melts and the dog can have a drink in flight like you!

Pretty much most of the Middle Eastern and Asian airlines are great for long hauls, Etihad, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, but British Airways and Virgin Atlantic is also good.
