Whats the best way to crate train a 4 month old pup? He has slept his first night in my room on a pet bed near my bed. Is this a bad idea?

We just got a 4 month old hound/lab mix. We got him from a rescue center and they say that he is litter box trained (a box with shreaded paper). So far he has had a few accidents in the house. I really want to house break him. Wont going in the litter box in the house confuse him into thinking its ok to go in the house? What are the best house breaking techniques for him to go outside?

I have owned akitas before when i lived at home, but now i have moved into an aparment and am i considering getting a new puppy. I know akitas dont need a huge amount exercise but i am wondering if the pup and eventual dog will be compatible with living in an apartment. my current apt is bi-level btw, with an up and downstairs. Is this a suitable match?

I have an alomst 6 month old welsh corgi. He's a great puppy all the time, except i'm noticing a few things that worry me.

I can give him a bowl of food and put my hand in it and he will eat right next to me without a problem, but when he finds something in the house that he isn't suppose to have (like a wrapper, etc.) and I try to get it out of his mouth he goes nuts (he bites and growls at me).

The vet told us to hold his mouth closed if this behavior occurs, but it seems as though i can't even get my hand around his mouth to stop him from doing it because he is so mad that he bites me in the process. He also barks and growls at ppl when we walk down the road, yet is super friendly and happy to greet ppl and other dogs when we go to the dog park.

Other than this "aggressive" behavior I am noticing, he is really a wonderful dog. He loves to hop on my lap, get belly rubs, and all the other normal puppy stuff.I just don't want this problem to become a bigger one.

My dog is driving me nutso. He's a very intelligent and obediant flat-coated retriever. When we moved to a house with a pool, we wanted to bu sure he waited for us to tell him it was OK to go in... or we would have a soaking wet dog every time we let him out to go potty. So, when we first moved in, we took him to the side of the pool and made him sit for a second... and when we told him "OK--SWIM" he knew it was OK to do so... and in he went! But what has seemed to happen is: he goes in... swims around... then gets out and comes to us asking to go back in! Once we say it's OK, we want him to swim his paws off and not keep asking us. My wife had an idea to buy him a special "swimming collar" (just a regular collar) that we'd put on him any time it's OK for him to swim. He knows what it means when we put it on him... but he still comes out after each round in the pool. (Right now, for example, he is crying at the door awaiting my command to "SWIM!" How do I break him of this??

I wonder what kind of stress that caused him and if he'll have behavioral problems. He's been an angel so far - three days into it.

ok here is my story:
i want a dog really badly! and my parents have had a dog since before i was even born! the dog's name was chelsea! but a couple years ago chelsea passed away due to old age! so then about a year later we got another dog named Sugar! Sugar was a very very very hyper dog (she was a jack-russle terrier)! and she bit people, so i soon became scared of her. So we had to get rid of her because she bit people and because my brother and i were scared of her, so we didn't take responsibility! now (almost 2 years later!) everyone in my family (well besides my dad) wants this one cute puppy that we saw at the humane society! i know that this time around everyone in my family is going to take full responsibility for Virgil (the dog)! but my dad doesn't think so! what are some ways to convince my dad that everyone would take responsibility in having this dog?!?! i can tell that deep down he really wants a dog! so what are some ways to convince my dad to let us get her??!

I'm looking for a dog that can only get about 2-3 hours of full attention everyday. I can feed him twice a day but I work from 8-5 so lunch is not good for me. Also, I live in an apartment alone so I want a medium-large dog. It doesn't matter if the dog sheds. Please no small dog breeds please!!!

I'm looking for unique toys for my pit she gets bored with her raw hide bones and any other kind of toy she chews up in 2 seconds flat. She likes to open box's up and scoot them all over the house but one pounce and it's all over for that box! I've tried the kong toys...she chews them up, I've done the tire swing (outside toy of course) and that last only a minute or 2. But I really need some good inside toys that can hang tuff with her. Preferable something she has to work at. Please do NOT tell me to excersie her because she gets plenty of that in a day. She is just an active dog who likes to play with toys. Any suggestions????

my nieghbors dog a rotti named sheba has attacked my chow. the nieghbors had let there rotti loose and then there rotti came up into my nana's yard and attacked my chow. we had to bring her to the vets and she had 7 puncher wounds on her body. and the vets had said to call the dog people and we did and they called the nieghbors and they said that they have to get rid of the dog or they will come and take her. and our nieghbors lied to the dog people saying that our dog was in there yard. and she wasnt. she was in ours. playing with our pit bull. and my chow is 8. and the rotti is about 3. and my dog never does anything to there dogs or them. and my nana owns the property and our niehgbors are renting from us. and my nana and her bf are gonna change the lease. and they did get rid of the rotti about 3 days after. but they rotti always attacks our dog. and she also attacked our nieghbors dog. and they lie so much. like they say dogs turn out to be just like there owners.

Okay, I have a white dog named Buddy, and he used to be VERY white. Not one spot on him was a different colour other than the pink tinge of his paws. However, he is rusting. Around his eyes, paws, and mouth (mouth and eyes mostly) he is turning a reddish - brown colour. I was readign about mice and they release this chemical from glands when they are stressed, but believe me this dog has NOTHING to be stressed about.

Please help me find out why my dog is turning brown... He used to be so cute all white and fluffy, and now I don't know what is happening!

Thank you so much!
Anthony

The puppy is in the crate for about 8-9 hours each day and some days she holds it and other days she refuses. I'm told by the vet, she should not be urinating in the crate at that age, even from that number of hours, and should already have learned to hold it rather than laying in her own urine.

I don't put water in the crate and try to prevent her from drinking heavily in the AM before crating her. Nothing is put in the crate (no towels, etc.) and the crate is not too large, maybe on the too small side.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how we can break this bad habit? Getting tired of bathing her all the time. Our 3 yr. old dog (same breed - English Cocker Spaniel) never had this problem.

My dog just ate the "joint" of the bone, which is one the ends, and swallowed it. We didn't actually see her do it so we don't know if she ate it as smaller pieces or just took the whole chunk and swallowed, but I'm wondering if this is bad for, she isn't acting funny and is breathing funny. Some I'm curious is this going to hurt her in anyway?

I was living with my ex fiance' and during that time I bought him a german shepard puppy or so we thought... too me he looks like one but to some others they think that he is a Husky. The people I bought him from said he is a pure bred german shepard but they didn't get him AKC registered.. for the fact the mother had such a small litter I wouldn't think that would matter but maybe I am wrong so my question is...is there any Liver colored german shepards out there? that is his color liver color.
