My dog (female lab) whey into heat and we let her have a litter and then fixed her. If you are going to fix them vets say to do it before the first time they go into heat. My dog calmed down considerable after birthing and then being fixed. Her daughter (my aunt owns her) was never allowed to go into heat and was fixed and she is by far more excitedable then my dog with only 2 years between them.

You absolutely SHOULD get your female dog fixed before her first heat. It won't calm her down, but it will nix the possibility of unwanted pups. What WILL calm her down is exercise and lots of obedience training.

Yes, it is extremely important to have your dog fixed before her first heat, because it will decrease her chance of mammary cancer to less than 1%. It is a very wise choice.
Dogs that are not fixed have a high chance of mammary cancer, and I can tell you from my personal experience it is absolutely devastating.
Thank you for caring about your dog.

It is best to get your dog spayed before she goes in heat. It will not change her other then take away hormone driven behaviors.Only time, training and maturity will make changes.
