The labs drop coat about 2 times a year and it comes off in tufts and fist fulls. That is just the way the dog is. To help reduce the mess when it goes into a shed brush the dog with a shedding comb/rake a few times a day. You need to get the very stiff long toothed rake that has a good bit of space between the prongs to get into the undercoat and comb it out. Soft brushes will just comb over the top coat and never get the undercoat.

You can also get some fish oil tabs for the dog, the fatty acids help keep the skin and coat healthy and reduce shedding quite a bit. Nothing shy of shaving the dog bald will make it stop though.

Get a slicker brush and a shed blade and keep the loose hairs under control.

A grooming shop has a special tool to get out the under coat. Most of it a good brushing and a bath and dried using a power dryer that sends all the loose hair flying.

Take him to a groomer and watch what tools she/he uses, you might be able to buy what you need right there.

Try to find a small shop that doesn't get real busy and your dog will get better treatment than some of the big shops.

When you get home you will need to brush him and use the shed blade to keep his coat and skin healthy. A couple of times a week is a good routine to get into.

You can get some liquid to put on their food call stop shed. But ultimatly, if you just brush them out every other day, you'll get it under control. The pup is blowing out it's coat right now due to wintertime cold (so the body thinks it needs to get a thick coat) while being inside is causing the coat to release all the extra hair that it is growing because the pup is staying warm enough.

you can't stop this it's normal.
Best thing to help.
Put advtives you can buy over the counter or at the vet. What your looking for is things to add to the dogs food that will say GOOD FOR THE DOGS COAT. or healthyer coat.
THEN and most importantlly GROOM THE DOG. daily brushing with the grain never aginst. This will remove the loose hair. This isnt all. at that time you must rub your hands or palms of your hands WITH THE COAT over the dog several times. This will also remove loose hair AND stimulate the coat. This in turn will bring out the natural oils in the dogs coat. you'll know your doing it right by rubbing your palms togather after awhile and you'll feel and see the dogs oil rolling off your hands.

Darling, you have a good sporting dog. Feed him a good quality food, and brush him once a day. This will cut down on shedding, add some vitamins if you want, but the first two things should have you only having to vaccum every 3 days..... Cheers Bogey
