ok here is my story:
i want a dog really badly! and my parents have had a dog since before i was even born! the dog's name was chelsea! but a couple years ago chelsea passed away due to old age! so then about a year later we got another dog named Sugar! Sugar was a very very very hyper dog (she was a jack-russle terrier)! and she bit people, so i soon became scared of her. So we had to get rid of her because she bit people and because my brother and i were scared of her, so we didn't take responsibility! now (almost 2 years later!) everyone in my family (well besides my dad) wants this one cute puppy that we saw at the humane society! i know that this time around everyone in my family is going to take full responsibility for Virgil (the dog)! but my dad doesn't think so! what are some ways to convince my dad that everyone would take responsibility in having this dog?!?! i can tell that deep down he really wants a dog! so what are some ways to convince my dad to let us get her??!

Everyone who has said 'just take the dog' are so wrong. What if her dad doesn't want the dog, even after they have brought the dog home? Then she needs to go back to the humane society and give the dog back to them - it's just going to be too much heartache. I suggest asking your dad to come along to the humane society and taking a look at the puppy you like. Get him to play with her, interact and talk with her. If he doesn't want the dog, there isn't much else you can do. Don't beg, don't nag, don't go out and just get the puppy. Just wait.

You need to tell your dad that you are responsible enough for the dog. Maybe they can't afford a dog? A dog is a lot of money. Food, vet bills, emergencies, leash, collar, toys, bed for the dog, etc. Maybe if you got a job and offered to pay for the food and toys, see what your dad says then.

Really, until you move out, everything is up to your parents. Both of them.

Take your dad to the humane society to see the pup. They usually have a place so that you can interact with the different dogs in a fenced in area. Take the whole family and everyone sit and play with her. I bet that would convince him.

This wouldnt fall under a dog question.
This would fall under human psycoligy.
Just one phrase comes to mind. It's hard to teach a old dog new tricks.
If he's made up his mind thats that.
Maybe there's more to it then he's saying.
IF he's willing to discuss it, Do a pro's and con's list with him. See if it's worth it OR not. Make a deal with him, AND you keep to the deal. Pro's OR Con's which will win?

I agree with "Baby". Just take the dog home - your dad's not gonna resist!
Then make sure you take real good care of it! Good luck! :)
