i live in palmdale and i am looking for a free small breed puppy for my daughters

there is no such thing as a free puppy. You have to be able to afford vet expenses as well as food.

You could check the paper but I would suggest going to a shelter and adopting. The thing with puppies in the paper is you never know what you are going to get. They could have parvo ( a terribly fatal disease), worms, fleas ect... You may end up spending hundreds in the long run. There are plenty of reputable shelters filled full of puppies. At the shelters they check the puppies for all the things I mentioned and more. You know that you are bringing home a puppy that is healthy and clean. A lot of shelters will also help you with the cost of spaying and neutering as well. It is the best way to go, I know from experience. Below is a website that may be able to help you.

Why not go to an animal shelter. You can find a dog for about $100 usually.
