I have a dog - 18 mos old - and he's developed what I believe is called Cherry Eye. I looked it up on a vet site and it's very, very small compared to the pics I saw. They all said surgery was the only answer but since it's so small and doesn't seem to bother him I was wondering if there were any other options.

Actually you can try to get the gland to stay where it belongs, on occasion that does work. You have to press it back down under what feels like the eye socket bone and hold it there for a while. If your lucky you might be able to train it back into position.

The only advice you should take from these answers is call your vet and take his advice. No one can tell you what to do here. Do not press on your dogs eye as someone on this site suggested. You can do more harm than good. Get your dog to a vet. Cherry eye can be very painful and it can and most probably get larger.

Oh, my! I wouldn't try doing what the above person suggested without speaking to your vet first.

Cherry eye generally does require surgery. It may be small now, but it will grow over time if not treated. Best to go to the vet to see what they have to say.

One of the dogs I used to know had it, yes surgery is the only option. Its painful seeing your dog go unger the surgery table but when its over your dog will be alot healthyer.
