I'm just curious if the breeds that the AKC said were most popular coincide with what people say. Obviously, labs were at the top of the list. I have Shelties but I would absolutely love to have an Akita or a Malamute.

Well me-if i could have any dog in the whole world-it would not take me a secound to answer-i would want the Aussie/border collie mix whos owners let her run free through our nighborhood! She is sooooo smart-she can do anything that i ask-and if i tell her to go some where-she seemingly goes there! Its amazing! She is very lovable and the thought of having HER is a dream! But she is not an AKC,because she is a mixed breed! But if she was not around-i would still get a mixed breed because they need the love MOST! I think they are smarter than full breeds-but thats just me,i have never had a full breed so i can not prove this! But for a time i was considering adopting a Aussie! But German shepherds are also on my best list!Malamutes are adorable!I would love one too!Labs dont strike my interst much-but they are great dogs! This Q is really good!

Good luck-

Luver of an "Aussie/border collie mix"

I grew up with a collie and she was great. But for the past 6 years I've had a rottweiler that I rescued from the pound and he has been the best dog ever. He had a great temperament, very loyal and loving. He past away last August and I would not hesitate to get another one. Akita's can be aggressive. I have a 1/2 black lab and 1/2 Akita and she doesn't quite have the temperament most labs have. She's very aggressive towards my golden retriever. Maybe it's the mix, but I have to watch her closely. Good luck!

We have 2 English Cocker Spaniels and adore them. They are very well mannered and extremely loveable. They are in the 25-30 lb. range. Not sure what size you're looking for, outside/inside, etc. We are very fond of this breed and will likely never change.

My mother also has an English Springer Spaniel. Again, great companion and loves their owners, but is larger than the English Cocker. They are about 50 lbs or so.

I would probably get another Pembroke Corgi, or another Catahoula, but that breed isn't recognized by the AKC. However, I dream of owning a Doberman and my husband wants a Nuffie.

I always had beagles and I would love getting another one of them. For a years I wanted a jack russell puppy, I finally got one a few months ago....such a fun dog.

Golden retrievers would also be at the top of my list.

I love big goofy labradors and Border Collies, however, I prefer adult sized dogs as I like to see the already developed personalities.
