For those people who know these breeds the Alaskan Malamute, Bernese Mountain Dog or the Greater Swiss mountain Dog which breeds would you choose and why. Also would the Berner and the Swissy be compatable with the Mal.As in what the Mal is capable of as well as personality because the Swissy seems to be portrayed as having the same pesonality as the Mal where the Berner is suggested to have even though a strong independant personality to be bubbly like the Mal.Before said I have done my homework on the breeds but I am looking for more personal insite before deciding on a particular breed of the three but I am still not sure.

Hard to pick...all are wonderful. I have a Siberian husky, somewhat similar to a mal....very very energetic! Super loving, smart, great with kids and really anything that breathes! :o) However that being said so are the other two choices! Depending on size you want, the smallest of the three is the mal...however depending on the breeder/sex can be just as big. I would like to get a companion for my sibe and am going to get a bern...always wanted one and I think they would be great friends! My sibe has required a ton of attention to train, etc. they get very lonely and need companionship when we're not around. They are very intellegent, but like to test the rules a lot! If you love dogs and want a very loving companion that requires lots of work then any of the three breeds would be great for you!

Alaskan Malamute has always been my dream dog since I was young. I worked at a Kennel all through high school and when a malamute would come in it would always get special attention and get to kick in the office. All the ones I came across had great personalities. Someday when I have a big yard I shall get one. For now, I have my little Pomeranian.

I have never been around any of them but when I was at the Vet yesterday someone came in that had Bernese Mountain Dogs and she went on and on about what wonderful dogs they are. She has 5 of them.

Personality is a good consideration but consider health concerns, do the breeds have a predisposition for certain ailments. My dog has allergies, needs to be groomed (doesn't really shed much though) and has alot of eye secretions.
Those are things to look for...

Alaskan malamute hands down. They're loyal affectionate animals with awesome personalities. Thsy can be a little stubborn at times but they love attention. I've had my malamute for 12 yrs and i love her to death.

Dani: You obviously like big dogs, why not a Newfoundland? They are the most loveable of any breed!

Do you have to get one of these breeds. Why not look outside the box. I have a Chihuahua mix. I was planning to get a Dalmatian. You should look at other breeds as well. I have nor will I ever regret my decision.
