Hi, I am terrified of putting my dog in a kennell. I am afraid he will be lonely and that he will be abused. He is a rescused dog, so he might have flashbacks of being there before I rescued him.

Have you ever put your dog in a kennell??? Do they get hurt??? Are they sad???

I am wanting to adopt another basset hound. I have a 3 year old female already. I called a animal shelter and they said it would be best to have a male with a female. I am just curious of how correct this info is??

We have a cross between a spaniel and a poodle (her name is marmite haha). This is the first time we have had a female dog and she is 'on heat' - (basically it is that time of the month) - how long does it last for and if we spay her does it stop?

What dog breed would be least likely to bite? I read about a list of the top 10 dog breeds least likely to bite, but I couldn't find it. Does anyone know what those breeds are and what order they would be in? I'm trying to decide what breed of dog I want to get. I really like Siberian Huskies, Akitas, and St Bernards, but I know that all of those dogs could be really agressive so I was thinking that maybe an Akita/Lab mix would be really cute and nice. What do you think?

MY 13 YEAR OLD LABRADOR HAS ALWAYS BEEN TERRIFIED OF FIREWORKS BUT SINCE GUY FAWKES NIGHT AND DUVALI LAST YEAR HE SEEMS VERY NERVOUS OF NOISE - MOBILE PHONES, TV ETC. HE'S EXTREMELY UNSETTLED AND WHERE AS HE USED TO SLEEP ALL DAY HE NOW WANTS TO EITHER GO FOR WALKS ALL THE TIME OR WALK ROUND THE GARDEN ALL DAY WHATEVER THE WEATHER. HE WON'T SIT DOWN UNTIL HE'S EXHAUSTED AND CONTINUALLY PACES AROUND PANTING. HIS HIND LEGS ARE WEAK ALREADY AND I'M CONCERNED FOR HIS HEALTH AS HE'S NERVOUS AND UNSETTLED ALL THE TIME. I THINK THE FIREWORKS HAVE SHOT HIS NERVES TO PIECES. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS ABOUT WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS OR ANYTHING I COULD GIVE HIM TO CALM HIM DOWN WOULD BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED.

What would be the Ideal dog to get for her(haha I mean me) just kidding....it is for her. It needs to be fairly small because we live in a condo with a patio about 10X20. the size of our patio is the reason i never got a dog but i want my lil one to have the same experience as a child i had. I was surrounded by animals all my life. a dog that can be in and out doors?

I was looking for some good dog books to read. I loved "Marley and Me" and have read a bunch of Jon Katz's dog books about his border collie & labs which were great. I have also read classics like "Where the Red Fern Grows".....

Any new books people have found to be good?!?!?!

I have an 11 week old puppy. I adopted her from a shelter and who knows what kind of life she had. She loves everyone, but you can't move too quick towards her because she'll get scared. I have a fenced in yard and it is perfect for her and she loves it!!! The problem is...is that she waits by the door when she is done, or whatever...and then when i call her to come in, she will come right up to the door and she just wont enter. She is like a foot away from entering and she doesnt. She looks scared of me and afraid to come inside. I live in Chicago and it is cold so i cant keep her out there for more than like 10 minutes with all the snow on the ground and i cant keep the door open for a substantial amount of time either. What should I do to train her to come in when i open the door? Why is she afraid? I dont yell or hit and she sleeps in her cage at night. She naps with me all day. She is perfect, she just wont come inside. So i have to go out there and get her. Please help!

I have a teacup chihuahua that I got for valentine's day. She's absolutely adorable but she doesn't have much fur. And its very cold out. She's outdoor trained, so I take her out on a leash to go to the potty, but she shivers and tries to curl up the whole way. I planned on making her a little wrap out of fleece, like horses wear that just lays over the back and straps under the belly. However, I'm curious if I should buy her actual little clothes / sweaters. Or maybe some doggie shoes so that her feet aren't touching cold ground. I've never owned a tiny dog before and need some advice on this kind of care. Is it a better idea to get her a tiny sweater and shoes? If so, where would I go to get that? The pet store around here doesn't have tiny doggie shoes or clothes. Their stuff is mostly for bigger dogs. Or would the shoes be a burden on her? Would she be alright in the cold with just a sweater or a little fleece wrap? :( I don't like seeing her shiver. Any advice?

Besides the weimaraner of course. Just curious came across a strange photo of a dog on the cover of a breed book (but it's not in the breed book and I haven't found a dog that looked like it). I'm a mutt girl myself but I do enjoy looking and reading about different breeds. You can see a photo of this "mystery dog" here:

I currently have a similar question, but I am so worried. My 16 week old male Cavachon (Bichon/Cavilier mix) was neutered yesterday. Upon the first incesion his heart stopped for just under 2 minutes. They did CPR and brought him back, then proceeded to do the operation. This was 24 hours ago. He had a robotic yip for about 12 hours, did not close his mouth, his eyes did not track well, and his tounge just hung down. Then he started whimpering instead of the robotic yip. His mouth is shut prettty tight now. and he has wagged his tail, and moved his paws somewhat. The vet called this morning and said they were going to the "people hospital" to get some medication to bring down swelling in the brain. They don't seem sure if he has brain damage or swelling of the brain. . Has anyone had a similar story or any idea if this is brain damage or swelling and do we have any hope?? The Vet is sure this was a reaction to the anesthesia
