MY 13 YEAR OLD LABRADOR HAS ALWAYS BEEN TERRIFIED OF FIREWORKS BUT SINCE GUY FAWKES NIGHT AND DUVALI LAST YEAR HE SEEMS VERY NERVOUS OF NOISE - MOBILE PHONES, TV ETC. HE'S EXTREMELY UNSETTLED AND WHERE AS HE USED TO SLEEP ALL DAY HE NOW WANTS TO EITHER GO FOR WALKS ALL THE TIME OR WALK ROUND THE GARDEN ALL DAY WHATEVER THE WEATHER. HE WON'T SIT DOWN UNTIL HE'S EXHAUSTED AND CONTINUALLY PACES AROUND PANTING. HIS HIND LEGS ARE WEAK ALREADY AND I'M CONCERNED FOR HIS HEALTH AS HE'S NERVOUS AND UNSETTLED ALL THE TIME. I THINK THE FIREWORKS HAVE SHOT HIS NERVES TO PIECES. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS ABOUT WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS OR ANYTHING I COULD GIVE HIM TO CALM HIM DOWN WOULD BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED.

He might have other medical issues so you should consult your vet.
Dogs with hip problems and arthritis often don't want to be still because they are more sore when they have been lying down. As for the fireworks and noise. I would try having him around dogs that are completely confident around loud noise when it happens.

Another trick you might try is getting a pot and putting his favorite treat inside. Then drop the pot on some carpet or other soft ground so that the treat falls out. Do this in front of the dog and lets them get the treat. Find creative ways to reward the loud noises he is afraid of.

Also focus on doing training he knows well like sit and down whenever he is afraid. I would have him assessed by the vet though because older dogs showing these behaviors could indicate some neurological problems.

Best of luck

It sounds as if he is going a little senile. Take him to the vet, there a a number of medications which can be given to alleviate this. You should take him anyway, he maybe has a heart problem or kidney trouble. He's obviously not enjoying life at the moment, so take him to the vet.

It sounds like a problem for the vet. Maybe its some kind of old age/memory problem. I would imagine you can get something to calm him down a good bit.
Hope you find a solution.

It sounds like anxiety plus there could be another problem.
Vets can now use 'low-dose combination drug therapy', basically you get two sedatives and give a very low dose of each and it reduces anxiety. Your dog isn't sleepy or sedated. It sounds like your poor lad could do with that.

You really should have taken him to the vet before, bonfire night was months ago. Please don't leave it any longer, theres loads they can do to help him.

The noise probably damaged his ears-take him to a vet.
