What dog breed would be least likely to bite? I read about a list of the top 10 dog breeds least likely to bite, but I couldn't find it. Does anyone know what those breeds are and what order they would be in? I'm trying to decide what breed of dog I want to get. I really like Siberian Huskies, Akitas, and St Bernards, but I know that all of those dogs could be really agressive so I was thinking that maybe an Akita/Lab mix would be really cute and nice. What do you think?

All dogs can and will bite. I read somewhere that Cockers are the most likely dog to bite a human. Why the concern? Do you have children? Have you been bitten before? I have American Bulldogs that only bite if they have to....ie: buglar, or a perceived threat. My choice would probably be a lab or a golden retriever....but then you get high energy...can you handle that? I will say I have 2 friends that have been attacked by Akitas while we were just sitting down enjoying a backyard BBQ???? They are wonderful dogs but that has been my experience with them

Whether a dog will bite a human is based solely on up-bringing. There are no dog breeds less likely to bite than others. Certain types of dogs are more likely to bite if provoked, however. For example, if you have children around the dog, some breeds will tolerate the rough-housing less than others. Sporting dogs (such as Labradors, Springers, etc) are what is called "touch insensitive", meaning that they have a more high tolerance for pain and unpleasant touching. Terriers, however, are pain aggressive and if they are hurt, they will attack the source of the pain. I've seen photos of terriers after a run-in with a porcupine. The dog got stuck with a quill, and kept attacking the porcupine until the porcupine was out of quills! Whatever dog you decide on, do your research and be sure to train him/her well from the time you get him/her. Good luck!

Any animal can bite. If you have a dog with excellent breeding and excellent training and environment, it should be fine. I don't remember that particular top ten list, but the Staffordshire bull terrier is described in its temperament by the UK Kennel Club as being completely reliable (and the only breed to be described as such). Little Staffies are neat dogs.

ok. Well I know for a fact Huskies are one of the least likely to bite. I have a husky lab mix and he is the mellowest (is that a word?) dogs I ever met! He is sooooo sweet and little kids tug on his ears and tail and he doesn't even flinch. But I know someone who had a dog (rottweiler German Shepperd border collie mix) and she bit 3 people. But not all Rottweilers are aggressive. they are actually quite mellow. It really depends on how you raise them. All dogs have some aggression deep inside of them and you can't guarantee that a single dog won't bite. Even the mellowest dog like mine could snap. So be careful! But Huskys are good, Akitas are nippy, but I recommend checking out some books from the library about the particular dog you want. Good Luck!

every dog has the potential to bite. If the dog feels threatened or if someone is harming it or you, your dog will probably bite. It is just natural for them. try going to the animal plannet web sight. They have a survey you can take that will help determine what kind of dog is good for you. It is short about ten questions. Pit bulls, dalmations, and rottwilers, are the only ones that i can think of that have a bad rep for biting. (I don't agree with that).

good luck

Any dog will bite, no matter what the breed, in certain circumstances. It depends on how they are raised and whether they have been properly socialized with people and other dogs when they are puppies.

I HAVE A COCKER AND HE IS THE SWEETEST THING HE'S NEVER BIT ANYONE OR THING, I'VE BEEN HEARING ABOUT THIS RECENTLY. I WAS GOING TO DEF. RECOMMENED A COCKER - THEY ARE SMALLER, AND TAKE UP LESS ROOM IN YOUR BED -LOL
MY NEXT DOG WILL BE A COCKER AND ALSO AN AKITA.
IT'S UP TOO YOU WHAT KIND OF DOG YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. AND I BELIEVE IT'S ALL IN HOW YOU TRAIN THEM. I GIVE MY DOG LOTS OF LOVE. SAM MY COCKER COMES AT YOUR FACE YOU MAY THINK HE'S GOING TO BITE YOU BUT SURPRISE IT'S JUST A KISS :P
