We have had Terry (my dog) for 18 years now..(thats human years). She is a fox terrier and she is my everything. I got married and had to leave her with my mom and brother. He phoned me now to say that she is really suffering and she is completely blind and deaf and cant hold anything down. She just lays there. He says that he is taking her to be put to sleep on Friday. I cant handle this. I know she is suffering but i cant stand the thought of not having her around anymore. We got her when i was 9 years old. She is the most pleasant dog. She has always been there for me, I dont think i can handle it if she dies...How do i come to terms with it?

What kind of food would i give my 12 week old puppy who cant go for a poo? Recently shes been trying to go but nothing appears. She's eating fine, we thought maybe she'd eaten something that has blocked her rectum as she eats anything she sees (stones) but might just be constipation. any ideas? she seems lively and happy enough so she's not unwell x

I feel so guilty doing this. It is such an invasive, painful, major operation, but I rescued a dog a few years back who happened to be pregnant. She had the pups and I reared and found them homes, but I really don't agree with dogs just having pups for the sake of it. Anyway, my question is how do I make her feel more comfortable after her operation? Will she want the loo more? Should I sleep downstairs with her just for the night - to give her some comfort? (I know she's a dog, I'm the boss etc, but I just want to make sure she's okay). I have obviously spoken to the vet, but wonder what you all think, people who've already experienced it.

These people I live with just all of my dogs eye brows off. I mean they are gone. What are the chances of this poor dog going blind if he has never seen full on sun light before. He is three years old. Right now I am so mad over this I can't sleep. Please help.

Her skin is very hot and she licks and scratches constantly leaving herself bald. She has been to the Vet so many times and he hasn't been able to even come close to curing her. She is almost eight and is a German Shepherd. Otherwise she is healthy and an active dog.

Bea is 4 months old and has plenty of chew toys but has bitten us and loves to chew on everything she can get her teeth on. She is a cocker spaniel.

There are some very opiniated people on here that believe that dogs should be bred ONLY for the 'betterment' of the breed. So what is that supposed to mean exactly??

What about the dogs that are already beautiful and healthy as they are? Do we just allow all perfectly good breeds to become very expensive to own and eventually extinct because no one will be permitted to breed them?

The Golden Retriever for example is recognized as one of the best all round dogs, good with kids, nice family dog... the only improvement that could be made would be maybe that they couldn't shed anymore, so what do you suggest, we breed a hairless mutation 'the hairless retriever', and no more 'Goldens' permitted??

I have a one year old Golden Retriever male. When he was a young puppy he would chew on anything made of wood or the drywall. He eventually seems to have grown out of this phase. Lately, he has started up again... this time with avengence. In a 30 minute period being unattended, he chew completely threw the leg of a chair, took a chunk out of the side of a table and almost chewed threw the leg of a desk. I dont know what to do to make him stop. He is such a loyal dog otherwise. I am to the point where I might need to get rid of him or risk having no furniture left. This is my last hope. When I catch him chewing I yell "no" and he stops. As soon as I walk away he starts back up. It almost seems as if he is chewing out of spite.

I have a 3 1/2 lb, 7 year old chi named Scooter that was adopted at our local animal shelter about 4 years ago by my husband and his ex-wife. The 'ex' took him after the divorce but returned him about 7 months ago because she took a job where she would be on the road a lot. He's a really sweet dog but he has many illnesses. He has chronic dialation of the eyes, hard of hearing, hump backed and is very skittish. He also sleeps all day and all night and only comes out to drink water and takes his kibble one by one back under his covers to eat. I have worked with him everyday since we got him but he remains fearful. When I pick him up he wiggles so hard that I've almost dropped him on many occassions, runs when you try to pick him up and he absolutely resists sitting in my lap. If you try to touch his head he snaps and has actually bitten my husband's lip which drew blood. My concern is he isn't really living a quality and healthy life. I feel sorry for him. Any suggestions?

Or just, why do dogs tip there heads like they do. I assume it is because they are confused, but why is that their reaction?

We moved from the only home my 15 month Cocker Spaniel ever knew. We used to be able to leave her alone at home but now she barks, crys and scratches the door when we leave. I know this is a type of separation anxiety but we have now been here 1 month. When will it get better and what can we do to make it better?

My puppy is 10 months old and he pees on himself every time he goes because he does not lift his leg I have no other male dogs for him to learn from. Is there a way I can teach him to lift his leg? Will he learn on his own? If so, when? It drives me nutty to watch him pee on himself.

Our dog Koda just passed away. She was outside playing with our older dog and I left the older dog in and Koda didn't come, so I fed my baby and yelled for Koda again. Unfortunately when I went out side to look for her I found her by one of our trees dead. Cause of death is unknown. We live by a country road where people drive fast but she only had marks on her nose. My daughter is very attached to Koda and was asleep when I found her. My husband just buried her, but this is very difficult to deal with and I have no clue what to tell my daughter. She is very knowledgable and knows about heaven and death, but I don't think she has the real grasp of the whole thing. She sometimes thinks they come back, like snow white, or she can go visit in heaven. So, I am clueless, confused, and worried about what to tell her. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
