Well first of all, dogs are not gift items. they should never ever be given as presents or more then likely, they end up in the pound or abandoned because the recipent of the gift didn't make their own serious committment to having a dog.
It is very very easy to find a reputable breeder, so the fact that you need to ask on yahoo Answers (plus the fact that you spelled the breed completely wrong) suggests to me that you have done no research on the breed and are not ready for a dog. I would suggest going to the library and borrowing several books on dog care. Quality Chihuahua's are very expensive animals; if you cannot afford to pay several hundred dollars at least, you might consider looking into local shelters and rescue groups. because of the little dog trend right now, there are guarenteed to be many abandoned and abused Chihuahua's available.
Pet stores and classified ads are two of the worst places to look for any dog breed; they are almost always the product of puppy mills and well meaning, but irresponsible backyard breeders. You should never purchase a dog from these sources. I would suggest going to the AKA or the CKC websites. there is generally a lot of starter information on the breed as well as links to breed clubs and breeder referals. if you do not get a rescue, a dog should always come from a reputable breeder who is actively engaged in comptetion shows and/or sports such as agility. Anything else is a gamble and also encourages irresponsible breeding.
But before you or your sister even thinks about getting any kind of dog you both need to do some major research on dog care in general and also about the breed and your sister needs to think seriously about whether she is ready and able to make a lifelong committment to a dog.

First, learn how to spell it correctly!
Second, dogs should never be bought as gifts. Is your sister prepared to make a 15+ year commitment to the care and well being of this dog?
Third - NEVER EVER buy from puppyfind, the newspaper, or a pet store. You will pay twice as much for an unhealthy dog who's parents are forced to live in squalor.
Buying and owning a dog is a huge commitment. It is worthwhile to do a little research and buy from a responsible breeder.

. The fact that you did not spell the breed correctly to me tell me that you do not know much about this breed. You should do some research on thebreed, or any breed, before you buy one. I have 4 dogs and only one is a purebred, the others are mutts, and my chihuahua is the most annoying of them all. Look at shelters before you buy a purebred. Thousands of animals are being killed simply because there is no one to adopt them.
Chihuahua's are not for everyone. I know this because I have been around them my whole life showing at dog shows, working at vet offices and living with a Chihuahua breeder. They are very small and fragile. They are a one person dog and that is it. My little Roo does not like anyone other than me. And she particularly doesn't like males. If you plan to get your sister one, she has to be very involved with this little dog. They do not like to be left at home alone. And very, very few like children at all. If she is younger, in college, or has kids I suggest getting a different breed because very few Chihuahuas like these situations. I would not recomend a Chihuahua unless they stay at home, devote all their attention to these little attention hogs, and do not have little kids. There are other breeds that are smaller but are adaptable unlike the Chihuahua.

Not from the paper, not from a pet store, and not from for sale websites. Go to the American Kennel Club website and find a good breeder.
Are you sure that your sister can handle this breed? I hope she can spell it correctly because if she cant this means that it is lack of research on both your parts.

Good choice: I've got a Chihuahua and so far,no regrets (: Well you could put up an ad in the newspaper with your dream chihuahua in mind.
For mine,I went to pet shops and hunted. They will give you a 'trial' test,if you want. Like letting the dog out of the cage and letting it romp around. All the best!

Does your city have a local newspaper? Usually under the classifieds section, they have ad's for people selling pets. That breed is usually pretty popular and you might be able to find one easily. If not, try your local animal shelter.
