How my husband taught ours to walk was by not giving her to much leash...he made her walk right beside him..if she try to dart off he would give a gentle tug on the leash until she was walking right by him again....in no time..she was walking right beside him with no problems..........tighten up on the leash don't give him enough to run far from you........and praise him a lot when he does well........he will be walking right beside you in no time...

If you do this technique like I did with my puppy(now 10) you'll be so grateful that you did. Let your puppy walk beside you...right beside you...never let you dog walk ahead of you.Walk him on the same side everytime too.You are the master! As your puppy walks a head a little, lightly yet firmly pull the leash back. This is telling him that he has gone to far. Keep doing this until he get's the idea. You will probably have to do this for a couple months. Don'y give up! It will work and you will be that more prouder of your puppy when it gets older. Praise your dog often and give him a small treat when he's been a good dog.
Happy doggie training....

Slack leash method

A regular buckle collar and a six foot leash are required for this training. The first step to teaching loose leash walking is to keep in mind that leaving the house on a leash is a reward. Secondly, remember that if you continue to walk while your puppy is pulling, you are, in fact, teaching your dog to "Mush."

First, put the collar and leash on the puppy and stand in one place. Give your puppy enough leash so he can walk about four feet from you. Reward your puppy every time the leash goes slack. This method is best when teamed with a reward marker, like "yes" or a clicker.

When you are ready to begin walking say "let's go" and take a few steps. Chances are good that your puppy will begin to pull immediately, so plant your feet and stop walking. Wait for the leash to go slack, give a food reward and try walking again

Try not to yank or "check" the leash, which is a natural response. If it is difficult for you to stop "checking," put your leash hand in your pocket. You should also try to be very vocal with your puppy. Puppies have a very short attention span, and talking in a high pitched voice will help your puppy keep his attention on you

Hi Short tail, Pull back on the leash gently and stop. Then start walking again. If your pup starts pulling you again repeat the steps again. It may take a little bit to break him or her of pulling you,but just keep doing the same thing and he or she will get the hang of it and stop pulling you around. Just takes patients and a little time. Have fun with your puppy. A Friend.

When you walk with the pup, hold the dog close and just walk. Ignore the dog and keep them close, walking in the direction you want them to, let them know you're the boss. The biggest mistake people make is letting their animal think it's in charge, not the owner.

A quick jerk on the leash will help..... NOT TOO FIRMLY though. Just enough to get his attention. It worked for my doggy.
