Our dog recently had puppies, and soon fleas showed up on them. We live in Florida, so the dogs are outside, they have a very nice dog house. But those fleas are horrible, and I heard using toxics on the pups or the mother dog could be bad for their health.
It is that fleas are already invading our human areas, they jump up our ankles and bite us. I encountered several last night even inside our house already, without the dogs ever being in there. On our patio, I used regular bug spray, but it won't help......
What works well for the dogs AND for us??

My friend is going to breed her dog, and I disagree with her. The only reason she's even doing it is to have a brown puppy, and even though I point out that she could just adopt another since her parents are ok with more pets, she doesn't care. I also point out that legally, you can't own more than three dogs in my county without a breeding permit. I've even tried pointig out how she always says that they are poor, so how are they going to take care of the new puupies? Does anyone have any facts or webpages I can print up to show her about the facts? I woud like to conv ince her not to do this. I have volunteered with the animal shelter here and have seen how many get put down because of no fundings. I would like something that would freak her out, like the number of dogs that get euthanized a year. Can someone help me find this? Thanks

One of the "commands" we've taught our 2 dogs is giving hugs - we kneel, say "hugs" and they jump up, put their paws on our shoulders, and we give a big bear hug.

I've heard that jumping up on people is a doggie sign of dominance, so I'm wondering if by teaching them to jump up we are telling our dogs that they are dominant over us. Have we started a bad habit, or are hugs okay when we ask for them?

I took my dog for his second set of shots at 7 weeks because I had to go out of town on which was a Wednesday. When we got home, he wasn't acting normal,so I took him back to the vet. While waiting, I let a little boy play with him. I soon found out that this little boy's dog had parvo. The doctor said that he would give him an imune stimulator just in case, but that the chances of him getting it were slim to none. I left there in a panic and took him to another vet, who said the same thing. I then left and went out of town thinking that he was okay to go outside because he had gotten two sets of shots. The girl that I let keep him let him go outside in the grass the very next day. I picked him up on Sunday and he seemed to be fine. That monday I took him out with me and on the way back I noticed that he was gagging and that he had thrown up a little. Well I took him home and left him for about an hour and he had thrown a tiny, tiny bit. He hasn't thrown up since. Could he have parvo?

I have been using:
Kwik Sew Pattern 3431 - http://www.kwiksew.com/Patterns/P3412_3433/3431.cfm
Simplicity 3939 - http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=3939
Simplicity 4316 - http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=4316

As well as altering newborn to 3 month old baby clothing

I am looking for a new pattern/s to attempt but would like ones that people have actually tried. It you have links with pictures that would be most helpful.

The outfits need to fit toy breeds - here are ones I have made so far http://www.flickr.com/photos/42743076@N00/

Looking for fresh new ideas

I have a six week old Jack Russel and Monday (2-26-07) I took her to the vet for her six week shots and she had a reaction and her face became swollen to the point where her eyes were almost shut. So I took her back and they gave her a shot and some pills to take for the swelling. The swelling is gone but now she seems to be bloated in the middle. When I pick her up her ribcage area seems to be "gas" filled. But she hasn't throw up or had any other reactions. I'm just worried she's my very first pet ever and I don't know what to do.

Just over 4 weeks ago my 13 year old golden Nikki had a seizure in the middle of the night; by the time I was able to get to the vet she had a total of 4. Blood tests ruled out a specific cause and Nikki he was immediately put on potassium bromide to control the seizures and has not had any sense. My vet said seizures can be cause by such a wide variety of reasons, eliminating the obvious
it 'could' be a brain tumour. She said that the potassium bromide
eventually would not work if the seizures were caused by a tumour. Hoping someone here has more definitive info, via
experience. Many thanks. Bella

My dog is male and all the dogs he ever has known have been female or a small breed and nuetured. But there is this one dog that he wants to rip apart. My dog is a lab newfie cross and neutered. The other dog is an english sheep dog and not neutered. This other dog is submisive and does not provoke the behaviour. Why is he doing this and how can i make him stop?

I have two cats. And I'd really like a dog. I'm allergic to them though..
So..it'd have to be a short haired one..
I don't want a big dog, but I don't want a tiny one either..(they're evil)..
What do you recommend would be the best dog for me...

Our newest family memeber and ,oh so much loved by us. was 16 weeks old last Saturday. He was nueutered this morning. His heart stopped for almost 2 minutes! the vet said they did CPR and revived him. they then finished the operation. It has been 12 hours and he has had problems. He is still at the Vets office, he is not "with it" he is not tracking well, has a slight light bark that seems to come automatically, he has not stood up, and does not track. We are so affraid we have lost him! The vet is hoping it is brain swelling that may go down. God!!! WE love this little guy. Has anyone experienced this? Maybe too much anesthsia? Is there any hope? does anyone have a success story of a puppy making it throught something like this?

Does my last name need to be on the registration papers? I got him at a pet store (I know "puppy mills" but I love my dog regardless and he is perfect) and his breeder is registered with America's Pet Registry. I am filling out the papers to register him but I'm not sure if I am supposed to put my last name on actual registered name or do I just put his name?
