i have a 12 tear old staffie who managed to get hold of a lamb bone on sunday and has been ill since.
i took her to the vets yesterday(monday) as she was straining to go to the toilet. the vet said her rectum was empty but gave her a painkiller injection to try to ease her stomach ache. she was restless all night and then was sick with the tablets the vet gave us for her. she also won't eat or drink.
i took her back today and was told her rectum was still empty, but the vet said he would take her in for an x-ray just to check things out.
the x-ray has shown a piece of bone blocking the top of her abdomen, she has now been kept in on a drip and painkillers and will be re x-rayed in the morning to see if the bone has moved.if not they will have to operate to remove it.
has anyone else had the same problem with their dog and was the dog ok afterwards ?
my main concern is that she is now an old lady. and i dont know how big an operation it would be for her.xxx

My grandparents are in their 70's and my grandpa has been in and out of the hospital for heart problems for years. There 49 year old song lives when them..but isn't home a lot. I think my grandpa needs a little dog to keep him company because he isn't as active as my grandma is. I thought about getting him one for his birthday that is in March. I know my grandma doesn't want a dog that sheds alot. If anyone has any ideas that would be great! Thanks!

I've had a Cocker Spaniel for 5 years, and now I'm planning to get a Chihuahua dog today. Now, how can I make the two dogs get along? How can I avoid the jealousy from the Cocker Spaniel, how can I make them be friends?

Thank you for your help!

I was just wondering whether most people continue to feed their dog two smaller portions during the day or one main meal in the evening once the puppy becomes an adult dog. Thanks!

Do u stop him from being active? Do u have to always support his back when he wants to get up and drink water? We want him to regain the strength in his hind legs. What do we do? Anyone out there has experience please help. Give us some pointers. Does he hurt himself when he gets up on his own?

Saturday I took my dog to the groomer and we spoke about him being over weight. Long story short. I spoke to her and a representitive ( AT PETCO )for this dog food that was recomended. We talked about the proper way to switching dog food and treats. Well, as to be expected he has the runs. He eats the food in but not unless I hand feed it. I got concerned because he didn't eat in two days and so that worked and now he has thrown up just once and the vet has told me to boil chicken and rice but that didn't work. I am just concerned on how to get him to drink. I read about Apple cider vinegar tablets or liquid. Does anyone have any other ideas? I am going to try chicken broth in the water tonight.Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

I know you hear this all the time.. But I'm gonna ask anyway. I have this Dog at my house that is a rescue/foster until after the babies are ready. She is VERY pregnant, has milk, some clear discharge, I can feel the puppies rolling all around inside, her temp is at like 99.1 but it's been like that for a day or so. She seems to be okay just ready to pop at anytime. I've thought she was about to start labor any time for a couple days now(She's starting to get restless, not eating much, licking at her vulva every now and then, sometimes panting)and here she is still pregnant. I was just wondering how much longer this can go on, being that she is a small dog she seems ready to burst. Being that I don't know her usual actions I really have no idea if she's always this way or if she's really close to whelping?
