It is best to feed your dog 2x a day, it is better for their digestion, make sure you are feeding the dog a high quailty dog food. They will benefit from it. Also with a good dog food you actually feed less because the dog is able to absorb all the nutrition without the fillers that other food has, which means your dog will poop less. be consistant in the dogs schedule and don't leave the food down all day. If you do you are giving the dog your leadership role. Good Luck

One really huge meal, especially if the dog eats it really fast, can contribute to bloat, which can be fatal. It's not necessarily abuse in that the dog isn't being fed enough, since I'm sure you just give the recommended daily amount all at once. It's just that it's a lot for a dog to digest and sometimes things go wrong.
I feed my dogs two meals a day. It's part of their routine, which dogs crave. The smaller dog is a slow, picky eater, and often he'll refuse the morning chow. The 10-month old pup will scarf down any food she finds, so I watch the meals and take away the bowls once she's done. It keeps her diet consistent, and has trained the terrier to eat while the getting's good.

We stick with 2 portions a day. Our dogs LOVE meal time and this way we get to make them happier twice a day. Also one of our dogs is a Yorkie and its better to feed dogs that small more often as their tummies are too small to eat enough food in one sitting to give them the calories/nutrition that they are going to need during the day.

It depends on your dog and of course your schedule. A dog that is going to be home all day by itself, and possibly unable to go outside, will need to be fed in the morning with a good walk afterwards.. and this will mean long enough for the dog to do all of its business. This might mean you have to get up really really early.. and if you already have to get up early to commute this probably won't work well.
I have dogs, and they are fed once a day. They receive a treat in the morning (and they don't let me forget it)... and then their main meal at night and a treat before bed. They are home alone during the day, but have access to the yard. These two boys are better on 1 meal a day. They aren't really interested in a morning meal, because they know my routine. When I am not at home they play together but primarily they sleep.. I know this because I have used a webcam to keep an eye on them. Therefore they don't require the food durign the day.
Other lesser know facts about dogs.. is that they SHOULD NOT graze at their food all day. Dogs should eat their entire meal with in a few minutes (dogs bolt food, it aids their digestion).. dogs that graze (like cats) tend to gain weight and become obese very easily. Leaving a bowl of kibble out for a dog can be very detrimental to them, it is not a kindness. If a dog picks at his food.. then he is not hungry.. take it away, And this often is the indicator that a dog does not need to be fed 2x a day~
You will have to decide what works best for you and your dog.. usually dogs let you know.. they are rather good at that.

I usually feed my dog which is 4 years old about twice a day. She always eats at about 3am in the morning. Then she will not eat again untill late that afternoon. But I go ahead and fill her bowl up after she eats. With puppies they will eat untill they blow up. But, adult dogs are more controlling of what they eat and how much. She always get two treats for bedtime.

I feed my dog one meal in the morning. But it is what ever you train your dog to do. Dogs are creatures of habit. I also have a feeder they can eat from if they get hungry. I have four dogs all different sizes. From a 3 year old Pomeranian to a 12 year old Belgian Sheperd. They get along. The Schnauzer and the Pomeranian play together. They are the same age. The Cocka-Poo also 3 yrs old, is quite and hangs out with the Shepperd. I changed to Natures Recipe from Nutro. They seem to like it and the Shepperd is loosing weight. Left to his own he will eat and eat.

mine have access to their food from 8 am to 8 pm and go to bed at 10 pm most days. but they are all house dogs and well house trained. they eat a little here and a little there all day long. we have 1 great dane, one alaskan malamute, and 3 chihuahuas. as for large and giant breeds, stomach twistintg is a major problem, i have found that when they have access like this they dont tend to "gobble" like they do with specific feedings. this dont work for everyone, some dogs will "gobble" no matter what or just eat because its there. i recommend nutro lamb and rice or eagle pack brand foods.

No, when the puppy is one year old, (mine is eleven months now), she will get "breakfast", then we have kibble out for them to snack on. Note that my dogs do not overeat the kibble, if they did, i would limit that also. Right now, I am weaning my puppy off of her "second breakfast", reducing the amount, so she will not miss it when I stop giving it to her. She is a Golden, and has always ate Science Diet puppy food in cans. She is a one good looking pup.
She is adopted.
