i have a 12 tear old staffie who managed to get hold of a lamb bone on sunday and has been ill since.
i took her to the vets yesterday(monday) as she was straining to go to the toilet. the vet said her rectum was empty but gave her a painkiller injection to try to ease her stomach ache. she was restless all night and then was sick with the tablets the vet gave us for her. she also won't eat or drink.
i took her back today and was told her rectum was still empty, but the vet said he would take her in for an x-ray just to check things out.
the x-ray has shown a piece of bone blocking the top of her abdomen, she has now been kept in on a drip and painkillers and will be re x-rayed in the morning to see if the bone has moved.if not they will have to operate to remove it.
has anyone else had the same problem with their dog and was the dog ok afterwards ?
my main concern is that she is now an old lady. and i dont know how big an operation it would be for her.xxx

I can't believe the stupid vet took so long to realize it was an obstruction. They should be taking her to emergency surgery. The main concern is that being older if she has any heart or liver problems the sedative could adversely affect her. I just hope and pray that it doesn't. She will be fine afterwords, as long as they do a good job nothing will go wrong and she will live a happy life.

what style of bone is it? despite if that's a cooked hen/turkey bone...then particular that's undesirable. by no potential provide cooked hen/turkey bones to dogs. They splinter and could reason choking or it may stab their esophagus. despite if that's a crimson meat bone...it would be super. merely watch that they do no longer attempt to swallow one too enormous or it may choke them. Rawhide bones...ok, yet back watch them to be sure they do no longer attempt to swallow to important of slightly.
