Saturday I took my dog to the groomer and we spoke about him being over weight. Long story short. I spoke to her and a representitive ( AT PETCO )for this dog food that was recomended. We talked about the proper way to switching dog food and treats. Well, as to be expected he has the runs. He eats the food in but not unless I hand feed it. I got concerned because he didn't eat in two days and so that worked and now he has thrown up just once and the vet has told me to boil chicken and rice but that didn't work. I am just concerned on how to get him to drink. I read about Apple cider vinegar tablets or liquid. Does anyone have any other ideas? I am going to try chicken broth in the water tonight.Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

Try childrens pedialyte. This will also replenish any electrolytes lost. Perhaps your vet needs to see your dog if it refuses to eat anything for over 2 days.

Chicken broth (w/o salt or onion) will probably work well. If your dog is overweight, using a Buster Cube, a Busy Buddy, a Kong, or similar interactive toy will help a lot. These toys make it more of a challenge to get the food and your dog can eat less and take longer to do it.
As far as the vomiting - when a dog's tummy is empry, most dogs will throw up a yellow, foamy liquid. Even a small snack before bedtime will avert this. I would also caution you about letting your dog train you into hand feeding him all the time....don't do this. Your dog won't starve - if you give him a toy with his food inside and he doesn't try to get his dinner, pick it up and wait til next mealtime.
Hope this helps!

First, of all... I have a half lab half rot willer and she is about 110 pounds. She will only eat a certain kind of dog food. (Kibbles and Bits) My suggestion is feed him regular dog food maybe kibbles and bits, but not much maybe a cup full. Then, add some wet dog food with it ( half a can or less) Make sure that is the same brand as the dry dog food. It will keep him regulated. It makes a difference. Take him for a walk around the block after he eats. After eating that food mixed he will drink as much water as he wants.

You better have the low salt chicken broth as this will only make your dog more dehydrated. Try letting him lick ice cubes my dog loves them. You have to switch over any food very slowly, you cannot just change the food. Try not to give him any snacks. Water down the broth. Hopefully he will take that if not get an eye dropper and squirt the water on the sides of his mouth. Not directly down it will choke him..good luck.

When my dog was sick he would not drink. The vet told me to put a little bit of reg. Gatorade in his water. He said that the flavor would make him drink it and that it would also help replenish him. It work really good. He liked it and was better in two days.

I have also heard of giving them ice cubes.
Hope that helps.

first of all Poodles are no longer French, the unique spelling of the call replaced into Pudel it rather is GERMAN for puddle, indicative of their water working days. The French won the breed and it snowballed from there (the advent of a stereotype I recommend) 2d of all, anybody stupid adequate to permit their canines to easily drink Evian water, is basically too stupid to possess a dogs.

Try giving him ice chips or ice cubes. He may like to crunch on these, and they will keep him hydrated. The vet recommended that to us when our puppy got sick and wasnt drinking water.

Good luck!

First, if you do chicken broth, make it the "no sodium" kind.

You can also try a bit of pedialyte, or some gatorade.

Try mixing it with some milk preferably warm.
My dog loves it like that.
