Our dog keeps getting ticks on her even after we purchased the most expensive tick preventive (supposely). Someone told us to pour lime dust over our back yard. We have woods behind our home, Thank you.

I just got home from one, and I do not envy the job of those judges one bit. As a spectator, I did well judging the Dobermans, as I marked them in my book as they showed and compared them to the judges placements!

Hoping to show my red female when she is about 7 months, she's just 16 wks right, so we have alot of work ahead of us!

My chi loves chewing at my carpet where it ends and the tile in my kitchen begins. I bought the spray that keeps them away from it, but i have to respray the area every day and that is quite aggravating. I try to catch him in the act to scold him which works sometimes but he eventually goes back. And let's face it, I cant watch him every second. Any ideas?

I have two dogs, both are 1 year old. They are both very active, and both have good appetites and eat well.

One of the dogs, however, is not as bulky as I'd expect -- her ribs show, as well as all muscles etc. She also has short hair and is easily susceptible to cold weather and rain. I'm thinking she needs a little fat on her body to help her out.

So my question is, will dogs bulk up by feeding them cheap foods like potatoes mixed with canola oil, or don't their bodies absorb carbs like humans (do they simply pass through)? I don't want to spend a fortune on dog food to do this. My dog food bill is already 60$/month for 2 dogs.

We have a ten-year-old, very intelligent poodle. Only recently, has he begun to go to the bathroom in his pen which he has never done before in his entire life. Nothing has changed in his environment that would indicate this is a behavioral problem. Could it be because of his age? Please offer your suggestions how we can alleviate this problem.

I am interested in buying a Cavalier puppy for my family. The one I have called about is 14 weeks old and has been neutered due to a hernia. Are these dogs usually laid back and not jumpy and snappy like some small dogs? I want a breed that will be easy to train and good natured. I know a lot depends on the puppy, but I also know that the breed has certain characteristics. Anyone with experience - please let me know!! Thank You!

Calm him down for nail clipping? Please read these facts before you comment:

1.) On a vet trip, they clipped his nails and split one all the way to the quick- VERY PAINFUL for the dog.

2.) He is not being "naughty" nor is he undisciplined- he's simply scared out of his wits that it will hurt like it did at the vets..we used to clip his nails all the time before that happened.

3.) No pet shop will touch him because he is so sensitive, and because the nail is still split.

4.) He is a Beagle with very strong pulling muscles and can easily pull away his foot during a clip- resulting in more damage.

5.) The vet won't do it without putting him to sleep and keeping him over night. KA-CHING!

6.) He's an older dog who doesn't need the extra excitement.

So...I'm sure there is something OTC I can give him besides Gravol or Benydryl that will work to make him sleepy- yes or no?

Thank you! :)
