If people are not ready there really isn't any convincing. Many people are emotionally distrought over the loss of a pet and need time to cope. When they are ready to move on they will.

Everyone needs a different amount of time to be emotionally ready for a new dog after the death of an old one. I needed to wait a year and a half before I could even think about it. If I had rushed, my new dog wouldn’t have received the love and care she deserved because I would have still been distraught over my previous dog’s death.

Plus, there’s always the chance that they simply don’t want another dog, ever. My uncle lost two dogs that he adored, and his heart just couldn’t take another dog.

Then there’s the cost. A new dog requires a lot of money right away. Not everyone has a spare $500-$800 to cover the cost of the dog and everything that comes with it, like vet bills. Not to mention they need a LOT of supervision at first. If they aren’t ready to part with the money or the time at the moment, they shouldn’t be forced to.

If you rush this, things will turn out badly. Just wait, and bring it up once in a while, but don't pester. Someday soon, you may be surprised that the response is, "Yeah, maybe it's time."

No one should need to be convinced to get a pet. They either want one or they don't. If it is a matter of convincing them about if it is the right time to get a dog, then simply ask them if they are willing to give up a little of their free time, a little of their extra cash, and gain a whole lot of uncondititonal love. And if they don't want to get a dog now b/c they know two people that have put them down.......had then never realized that dogs do in fact die??

Oh my gosh do not go to a pet store they are the reason there are so many puppy mills we adopted two dogs from a Westie rescue after having to put down our 16 year old dog. I would advise doing that it was weird at first because you think you'll never love another pet but you do...just differently! Plus you can make the difference for a pet who reallly really needs you! Rescued animals are so loving and they do know you rescued them!

maybe your family isn't ready for a new dog. But you could just suggest that by getting a dog will help with the pain of losing the last one.

Addopt a older dog from the pound, you'll be saving a life, and you won't have to potty train him.

why don't you take them out, and go to a pet store and let them just look, but I would wait awhile before doing it, because they just suffer from loosing one that they love, and probably is not ready for another one at this time.

you cant really convince someone to get a pet if they arent comfortable about it, and they shouldnt. pets take alot of time and devotion. if someone feels they arent right or dont have time to devote to a pet, then its best they dont get one.
