I know the nipping is normal to start with, but I want to nip (not a pun) it in the bud. Also the constant jumping up to people, how do you stop them?

As soon as the pup starts this behavior turn your back and totally ignore the pup for at least 5 minutes. When the pup is behaving the way you want make sure you give plenty of praise so the pup will learn what you want.

If the pup goes to jump up, turn your back on it and completely ignore it, do this as often as it takes to be able to greet your pup without it jumping up. Then give loads of praise. Make sure everyone who comes into the room/house does the same thing. It has quick results if your consistent.

As for the nipping. let out a high pitched "Yelp" then gently insert of pup's toys into it's mouth. This will reinforce to the pup what it is allowed to nip/chew and what it is not. Pup's learn through play in the litter, by letting out a yelp the pup will think he has hurt a member of his litter and should stop.

Good luck

Turn away from the pup everytime it jumps up at you, also tell visitors to do the same. The dog will soon get the message, some dogs are more determined than others but it will soon reaise that it is not acceptable and will stop.

With the mouthing a lot of people advise to smack the dog. I dont believe this is correct. When puppies play with litter mates they know when they have gone too far as the other pup will let out a yelp if it gets hurt. This is what you should do, when the dog next tries to use your hands as a toy let out a high pitched yelp, it will make the dog stop straight-away. Offer a toy when he stops the mouthing
But dont despair, he/she will soon grow out of it. They always do.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/XJCeT

By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.

To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

You need to cross your arms and turn away the second your puppy jumps up, taking your attention off them straight away puts them off.
When your pup nips you, it sounds really stupid and you'll probably feel a bit daft, but yelp quite loudly, sounds silly but it works.
Remember to stay patient though, i am a dog groomer and the one thing i have learnt is that dogs don't know what manners are and they just get over excited so you can't put the blame on them.
good luck!

When he nips you, turn away and completely IGNORE him. I know it seems horrible but they hate nothing more. Turn back after a minute. Continue this. When he jumps up, gently but firmly lift your leg and he will slip down(but do not knee him). Then... ignore him. It seems tedious but he will realise doing this is not the way to get attention. Remember to reward/fuss him if he doesn't nip or jump for a while. He will get better. If you have time, do this in a room. Walk out for a minute every time he is naughty, then come back in. He will realise. And if you're visitors are patient enough, get them to ignore him until he calms down. If not-leave him to jump at them! lol. Joking. Good luck

I have a herding dog so he naturally nipped at my heels as I walked. The best and most effective advice I got to end that was to yelp like the puppy would if it happened to him. They naturally learn this from the mother around 11 weeks old, however most puppies are pulled from the mother between 8-10 weeks. I broke my heeler in about four days after starting this technique.
As for the jumping, if it happens when people arrive at your house, be sure to have a leash on and only allow the new arrivals to pet the dog when he is sitting. I usually let mine off leash after about five minutes, just enough time to calm down. If he jumps again, he goes back on the leash. I use a separate leash for this though so that one leash means he is in trouble and the other leash (the one for going on a walk) is a reward leash (less treats used then)

When dog jumps up or nips, fold your arms and look away. Simple!

Use a leash, in the house, outside, where ever, step on it so he can't jump up when being introduced or when people stop over. They also make anti-jumping harnesses. He probably nips to get attention or is too rough in play. He should NOT get any attention after this behavior. Here is an article on how to correct mouthiness in pups/dogs. http://www.petcaretips.net/stop-dog-nipping.html

Ignore the dog when he starts to jump. Pushing them down with your hands just makes them think you are playing and gets them excited, therefore the more they will jump. When he stops and sits, then you pet him and give praise. I have everyone that comes in the house wait until they sit before they pet them. It works...but also takes patience.

As for the nipping, tap him on the nose (don't hurt him) and say No sharply, and give him something he can chew on.
You can teach the dog, the meaning of OUCH. I have french dogs so I say Ayoye. But when I say that he immediatly take his paws off my leg.... and stops nipping.
