Thanks to everyone who responded to my question! I took him to the vet and just got home shortly ago. I was told by the vet that he was basically having strokes and that i should give him sea sickness pills for the next couple of days and monitor his progress. Also, i found out that 13 years of age is not that old for a Sheltie and that many live for a couple more years. If anyone has anything more they would like to input on this feel free to email me
Thanks Again

Yes, my 13 year old pit had this. I came home once after being out for only 1 hour. She did pee-pee all over the floor. She seemed dizzy, unbalanced, I thought she was blind becuase her head was ****** to one side and she was just "out of it". I thought she had a stroke. I took her to the vet and it appears she had Vestibular Disease. Dogs of that age are susceptible to this. There are 2 types: One is from a brain lesion and the other from a middle ear lesion. Hers was from a middle ear lesion. She was hospitalized for two days and when she was released she had that "twisty" head for about 1 week and she had bad equilibrium. She was on meds for 2 weeks and she is fine today! The doc told me the "twisty" head would be permanent. It wasn't. Take your dog to the vet ASAP. You need to know if it's a middle ear lesion or brain lesion so that it can be treated properly. Hope this helps. : ) Good luck!

**Kelley, your dog years are wrong. It's not 7 per year. 1st year=1 year, Every year after = 5 years. His dog is actually only 61 years old.

PS: Don't listen to the inexperienced ones at the bottom. The last one is describing something far worse. Your dog is only 13. Be optimistic. Give your dog a chance. This sounds like what I described above which as you can see, is treatable.

It seems to me your dog is just getting very old. 13 is a old age for a dog. I lost my Male Rotty at the age of 15, 2 years ago and my vet was amazed that he made it that long. I had always hoped that he would just lie down and go to sleep. You poor old dog is going through old age just much the same Way as people do! Think about it your dog is 91 in dog years!! That is pretty old. Good luck and take care

Oh boy. DejaVu.
My Sheltie was 14 when this happened. then the blood vomit.
Listen, I have to make this quik.... but you can email me if you want...

This is a heartbreak answer but DONT do what I did: Dont glue him together so that his last days are hell. He has been your best bud forever, he deserves a more peaceful end. Really really sorry.

He is getting old, I have a 13 year old cocker spaniel and does the same thing. they have no control over the bowl or bladder movement. I can let my dog out side and she will go and come in and go again. just be patient and love them,
