I know a dog that got hoarse, only he barks forever (seriously, that dog barks all day and night). I have a dog that will continually bark for hours at a time, but doesn't get hoarse, so i have come to the conclusion that it takes a very long time for a dog to go hoarse, but that it is possible.

I call my dog a horse, but we are talking about a different kind of horse. My Golden Retriever is huge, so we playfully call her our horse.

I personally do not allow my dogs to carry on like that, I also have a Jack Russell Terrier, she does this howling thing, she used to do it in the middle of the night, my hubby got up one night and screamed "shut the F$%& up!!" and threw a sneaker at her kennel, she stopped the midnight howling. She sleeps in our bed now (so who got trained? hmmm). We used a bark collar for the Golden, now she only barks at appropriate times, and for a reasonable length (short) time.

Some of us are responsible and considerate dog owners, some are not, apparently.

Yes take it from me (I've worked in kennels) a dog will bark itself hoarse and I have even known dogs to completely lose their voice from constant barking.

Yep....My JRT did that, he barked non stop in his crate for 3 hours. For about 3 days afterwards, his bark was deeper than the normal yappy JRT bark.

When I put mine in his crate, I usually shut the door to the room he is in and turn up the tv...lol

Yes they can go hoarse, and it sounds funny when they do, but it takes a lot of barking! You`re more likely to end up barking mad first!

In any given situation, focus on what you do want your dog to do instead of on whatever he’s doing wrong. Learn how to train your dog https://tr.im/SIjnC

For example, suppose that on many evenings, your young dog gets busy looking for trouble just as you’re digesting your dinner. He grabs a boot from the mat by the front door and gallops through the house with it. You yell at him and take it away. He grabs its mate. You yell and take it away. He heads for the kitchen and starts checking out the counters in case something tasty’s been left behind. You chase him away. And on and on, until you’ve lost your temper and torn out clumps of hair you can ill afford to lose.

I used to look after a Great Dane and an Allapella Pony. The dog was bigger than the horse!

has a petsafe sonic barkstopper. Now Skippy doesn't bark so much, almost no barking at all.

soemtimes the owners dont and yell at them or spank them for making such a racket. i love dogs and i could never yell at one, im serious. dogs just get excited. they bark for ever but they calm down eventually. it only bothers me if it goes nonstop for like 10-20 minutes.
