Most dogs see very well in the dark MUCH better than humans because they have more rods in their eyes which are related to night vision and also a special structure in their eye that reflects light which is why their eyes look so eerie and shiny at night.. Remember dogs are predators by nature in the wild and had to be able to stalk things both during the daylight and sometimes at night. I am posting a couple of links with good discussion of canine vision.

Most dogs can see better than humans in the dark.

Many genetic diseases of the eyes will greatly limit vision/night vision.

Just like people, Vitamin A will help dogs' night vision.

I think different breeds can see better than others. My Siberians have better night vision than my Springer and Irish Setter.
