I have a 3 1/2 lb, 7 year old chi named Scooter that was adopted at our local animal shelter about 4 years ago by my husband and his ex-wife. The 'ex' took him after the divorce but returned him about 7 months ago because she took a job where she would be on the road a lot. He's a really sweet dog but he has many illnesses. He has chronic dialation of the eyes, hard of hearing, hump backed and is very skittish. He also sleeps all day and all night and only comes out to drink water and takes his kibble one by one back under his covers to eat. I have worked with him everyday since we got him but he remains fearful. When I pick him up he wiggles so hard that I've almost dropped him on many occassions, runs when you try to pick him up and he absolutely resists sitting in my lap. If you try to touch his head he snaps and has actually bitten my husband's lip which drew blood. My concern is he isn't really living a quality and healthy life. I feel sorry for him. Any suggestions?

7 yrs. old isn`t really all that old for a small dog, have u taken him to the vet for a thorough check-up ? It appears u r leaning towards euthanasia, if so, do give him another chance. After all he has been separated from his mistress and placed again in strange surroundings, no wonder he is confused and apprehensive. If the vet finds no serious ailments, then patience and persistence will win out. The poor little fellow needs a final stable home, if u both r willing to give it ur best shot. Good luck.

My daughter has had three Chihuahuas. They have all seemed to be a little skiddish, a one person dog for sure. The one she has now will bite her if she picks him up from a warm spot because he doesn't want to be moved. He thinks he is ferocious but is also scared of many things; the linoleum floor, the sound of someone chewing gum, nail clippers. Give that little one a chance though. It may warm up to you yet. It takes a while.

Sounds like he NEEDS to go to a veternarian. He is probably in pain! Get him help, it is cruel if you dont.
