Don't tap your pup's nose to stop biting. Why? You will cause the pup to become handshy. If you expected a person to shake your hand and they slapped your face instead and next day they shook hands and the next time?.. what would your response be? You want your pup to relate positively to you, not to be fearful of the hand that may be feeding it, grooming it, putting on the lead, etc.
To introduce an element of "natural discipline", grasp the recalcitrant pup with one hand, place your other hand over the top of his muzzle, gently pressing his muzzle towards his chest as you say, in a low, growly tone of voice, "No BITE". If they begin to throw a tantrum and thrash around trying to bite, just hold the line until they "give in" and "say uncle" (quit resisting). You should not find it necessary to get aggressive with a young puppy. Simple restraint is usually enough to get the message across.
You might put a long leash on the pup, when it is near your toddler, so you can keep careful tack of it until you get it to understand the no-bite rule.

Hi J!
Sorry, I can't know age your toddler, but I would be careful about letting your toddler be around the dog at of kids age, however... I would not recommend getting rid of the dog. Bite is a very common behavior amongst young pups. However, your child's safety comes first. I would not let a young child of this age be in direct contact with a dog. Regardless of the dog.
Biting and mouthing is a common activity for many young puppies and dogs. Puppies naturally bite and mouth each other when playing with siblings, and they extend this behavior to their human companions. While other puppies have thick skin, however, humans do not, so it is important to teach your puppy what is appropriate, and what is not, when it comes to using those sharp teeth.
The first part of training the puppy is to inhibit the biting reflex. Biting might be cute and harmless with a 5 pound puppy, but it is neither cute nor harmless when that dog has grown to adulthood.

A well trained and cultured dog will never bite.

First help your toddler to be gentle with puppy
Second if puppy bites time out for puppy
or if toddler pull tail time out for toddler.
Train your puppy to lie down first and then let your toddler gentlely pat puppy.
dog are happier if they submit to you

Tell the puppy NO and never leave it alone with your toddler. In time your puppy will realise what it can and can not do. Make sure you give it praise when it is not biting. Dogs like to please their owners so if you show him how you want him to act and praise him for it that dog will always act like that to please you. Get it some chew toys.

Take him to puppy obedience school A.S.A.P.! You can also try to swat him on the buttwith a newspaper (not hard of course). Soon, he will associate biting your toddler with a swat on the butt and he should stop

Biting is a typical behaviour in puppies, but one that can get annoying, and shoul be stopped.
Anytime the puppy bites, you can gently grab at its muzzle and use a word such as "OUCH!" And don't be afraid to say it in a loud, stern voice.
Also, buy the puppy some chew toys. Anytime he/she begins to bite, say that word "OUCH", but then quickly place the toy in his/her mouth, and praise them ("GOOD Puppy!") for biting on the toy.
