I was looking for some good dog books to read. I loved "Marley and Me" and have read a bunch of Jon Katz's dog books about his border collie & labs which were great. I have also read classics like "Where the Red Fern Grows".....

Any new books people have found to be good?!?!?!

I am going to recommed From Bagdad with Love. As told by Lieutenant Colonel Jay Kopelman. Its set during the war in Iraq as is still happening now, and how he finds a puppy and named it Lava after the first Battalion, Third marines-known as The Lava Dogs. it starts in Nov. of 2004. Its just about a tiny puppy left behind when the city of Fallujah, Iraq fled before the bombing. Despite military laws that forbid keeping pets, the marines de-flea him with Kerosene, de-worm him with chewing tobacco, and fill him up on Meals Ready To Eat or a.k.a. an MRI! And then begins a dramatic rescue attempt to get him to the US. I felt like I was really there by reading this book. Its really good. :)

James Herriot has a great book of dog stories (all of his books of animal stories are great actually!). he was a country vet and the books are about his patients. some are funny, some are sad, but they are all great!
