I just got a 5 month old lab and he is soooo scared. He wont use the bathroom outside.Everytime I try to take him outside he tries jumping out of my arms.He stays in one corner of the room.I tried to take him outside and he freaks out.I have no idea what to do. I've been trying everything from treats to carrying him.I know that this is his first real home, but I want to get him outside. He tries pulling away and running. PLEASE HELP! What do I do when he is scared of everything?

He may not have been allowed in the house before. So he doesn't want to go outside, because he is afraid he will be left out there alone. Take him outside and play with him, give him treats, praise him lavishly, make sure he has a great time, and he will get the idea that going out is a good thing.

My toy poodle puppy was scared of everything too when I got him 3 weeks ago. It's just the fact that he is in a new place and has to adjust. It's not an automatic response for your puppy to realize, hey this is my new home. Also, he's a bit older than my pup was wen I got him so it may take him a little longer to move on from his former surroundings. My pup was scared of grass, he was scared of every sound, he was scared of movement- but now he is a happy pup that loves to go on walks. You have to introduce things slowly. Take him outside to the grass and let him sit there. Don't look at him, don't bend down, just stand there. Eventually he will start sniffing around and exploring. When he explores, he loses his fear and realizes that every sound or quick movement won't be the death of him. It just takes time. Remember to give him lots of praise when he does what you want. They respond very well to love and affection and you'll see-- he'll get used to that grass in no time!

What i would do is take him outside and play with him. Take is favorite toy outside and just sit down and play. Most likely if he is scared he will try and stay by you. When i got my Weimaraner pup i would take her outside and play with her. i would just try to make it a fun time for him toys and treats. while i was playing i would make sure that he went to the bathroom before i brought him back in the house. the more you take him out and play the sooner he will get use to the idea of being outside.

If you have any kind of a yard, turn him loose (if you have a fence). Or tie him up to a stake. Stay outside with him for an hour or so, and let him get used to the sights and sounds of the outdoors. Do this regularly.

If you don't have a yard, take him to a park. You can get a long leash (called a check cord) that can be as long as 100 ft. Choose the size that's best for you and spend some time hanging with your pup outside, he'll get used to it eventually.

Whatever you do, don't tell him it's ok. When you try to reassure you dog when they are scared, they don't hear the words- they hear the tone. And when you are singing to him "it's ok!" He hears the light tone and thinks what he's doing is the right response. If he jumps and barks at you when he's scared, tell him no firmly and walk away. If he just cowers, ignore him and step away. He needs to learn there is nothing to be afraid of and he doesn't need to act like that. Tough love, baby.
(and whatever you do, don't give in to those puppy dog eyes!)

I already answered this on your last question, look there. But remember, your puppy is in a new place and will take time to get used to everything. This will take alot of time and patience. Don't give in to him, that only leads him to believe he's the boss of you iinstead of the other way around.
