i never personally used that stuff. we used to sell it at my petstore until it got conatminated with a toxin that killed every animal that was injesting it. so we stopped carrying that brand. they probably changed their formula and are using a different by-product from a different animal. you should probably get him off that, some foods such as diamond, purina, iams ( now that wal mart produces it)pedigree, and all the other non-premium brands....all decrease life span cause of all the fatty fillers and by-products and un needed crap that is in there. switch to something holistic. i always recomend eaglepack holistic select. it has organic meat meal as the first ingrediant, that has no hormones or antibiotics in it, it has no corn, wheat, or soy fillers, which corn and wheat are big allergins and soy can caise hardening to dog and cats arteries. it has alot of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and nothing artificial. you'll see an amazing improvement in their bowls, skin, coat, and their all around health will increase. its decent price and their are always deals on it. check that product out. and if not that one wellness is my next pick, but not as great quality.
ps. old roy at wal mart ( excuse my harshness ) is CRAP. the first ingredient is ground up yellow corn, meaning that makes up the majority of the product. anything they sell at walmart is crap..
aslo....sandra d.... diamond contains alot of fillers and soy that are really bad for dogs health, especially giant breeds.

My dobie was on their Large Breed Lamb & Rice Puppy formula when I first got her. I switched her off of that and onto Science Diet, and that's when all the problems with her allergies started. She's currently eating Wellness Simple Solutions Venison Formula, and her allergies are under control. We never had any problems with her on Diamond, the only reason we switched was b/c it wasn't readily available where we live, and I thought Science Diet was a higher quality (I know better now).
Make sure you dog isn't wolfing down the food, that can cause bloat quite easily. If you can't stop it from eating the food too fast, try breaking up the feeding so it's less food over a longer period, that should help with the bloating.
The reason there was a recall for SOME of the formulas (not the lamb and rice puppy) was because there was mold growing on some of the corn they use as a filler ingredient. The toxins from the mold can be deadly for dogs and some died. That is why it was recalled. But the key thing here is that any dog food containing corn could have this happen. So it's best to get a food that does NOT contain corn, dogs don't need it and why pay for food containing ingredients that aren't beneficial to your dog.

First of all. Diamond's issue with their food was because of a bad batch of corn, nothing more. If you read all the labels on most of the dog food you see, most of them have corn and corn meal in their food. So if it happened to Diamond, it can happen to all the others who use corn. In fact, Iams had a simialr experience with bad corn, and caused quite a few deaths years back. I guess people just forget about these things after a while. Cheaper, grocery store brands are the ones who will more than likely use corn and corn meal in their foods as fillers, so if you are worried about corn contamination, stay away from those brands.
Diamond now carries a new food called Diamond Naturals, which contains absolutely no corn. They switched to using brown rice, which is good for your doggy. Diamond is in no way bad for your dog, especially since they made this change. It's actually a really decent food. Not the best, but decent.

Yes, I use Diamond brand dog foods. I feed my two Male Danes their High Energy Sporting Dog formula with 20% fat and my female Dane their Adult Maintenance formula. They all do extremely well on it. I live in Texas and Texas was not affected by the recall.
A couple of precautions that I watch for, though, to prevent bloating are: 1. no drinking half an hour before or after eating. That is because the water does not mix well with that much fat in the gut and can cause gas and bloating. It also makes the dry food swell in their stomach, causing bloating. And 2. no strenuous exercise 30 minutes before or after eating. That also helps prevent bloating.
I have to be very vigilant because giant breeds are susceptible bloat and torsion. I lost my previous male to it two years ago today. (Before I started feeding Diamond dog foods. He was only six years old.) The emergency vet hospital here couldn't help him and they said that he probably wouldn't survive the two plus hour drive to the nearest University hospital.
There are some excellent resources online for and about bloat. I printed one out called The Bloat Book and keep it with my dog papers. It tells how to recognize and what to do in case of an emergency.

My pet store sells Diamond Naturals. Its holistic. diamond is now one of the safest foods on the markets with over 151 checks. it is now CORN FREE, which was the problem about a year ago. i wish people that answer these questions would stop "advertising" brands that theyre promoting. some of the brands people mentioned in these answers have had problems in the past with their food. look at Iams, Eagle Pack, Science Diet..they all had recalls for animals getting sick in the past.
ok..back to the question...your dog might be allergic to something in the food. if it contains beef, switch to a lamb and rice..etc..
if your dog has continuing problems you might have to check with a vet. is he constipated? some dogs get bad stomach problems and it doesnt have to do with the dog food.
