me and my brother found a bird nest and he got an egg out of the nest, even tho i told him not to because the mom wants it back. he wants to know what he can do to make it hatch and surive without its bird mom.

he didnt keep the nest because it was breaking up as he took it out from the tree branches. he thinks they eat worms from when they r just babies bit im not going to be searching for worms in the yard!

its really small now. its about 1-2 centermetres in length and about 1 cm in width. its all white but the bottom and top of the egg are clear white.

he has it near our cats belly to make it warm but i dont think it is helping.

what do we need to feed it if it hatched? how long until it does hatch? what do we do if it doesnt hatch at all? should we give it back to its mom? what do we do with it?

i dont kno what type of bird it was but it was brown with black spots and a very big chest with a medium wing span.

We have a plucking problem, took the bird to the vet. The vet says taking a nest away can be helpful and decrease sexual frustration. It just seems so mean, they sleep in there and guard it faithfully. Does anyone have experience with this or know where I can get more information?
Thank You!

Ok, I adopted a triton cockatoo that is 8 mos. old. She is being shipped to me. She wasn't as expensive as toos usually are because she had been attacked by an aggressive adult greenwing and has a small (2 cm) wound on her wing. She has been vet checked and has a health certificate. The wing is healing nicely and no infections. She can still fly. The breeder that I am getting her from is very caring, ready to answer all my q's, and made a point to check me out and ask questions before she agreed to sell her to me. She says that she has made sure that the too has not bonded with anyone but has still socialized her well with her 8 kids and also visitors that come to look at the birds. NOW. I also adopted a greenwing macaw from a local store trust, very clean, and they have a behaviorist that works very closely with us. My problem is that they keep telling me to try and get my money back for the cockatoo because they are worried that she will have aggression towards people as a result of being attacked by another animal. And that it is possible that she will never forget and end up being a bad pet. I want to disagree. But, deep down he is freaking me out. This is supposed to be an exciting time for me and he is causing all this stress. Is what he's saying true????

I'm having a bird shipped. the breeder has taken her to vet and says that she is sending a health certificate. what is that? does it mean that she is healthy? The reason I ask is because I'm getting two babies at once. Not sure how to quarantine them because they are both so young and so big (triton cockatoo and greenwing macaw). What exactly does the health certificate mean? Since she was checked by a vet today and being sent on friday does she still need a vet check when she gets here?

My cockatiel has been sick for a few months now. I took him to the vet and they gave me some medicine to treat an upper respiratory infection. My bird seemed to respond well to the medication but he still had labored breathing. The other day, I took him out of his cage and immediately began to loose his balance. He looked very weak, his beak felt cold and he couldn't keep his balance. I thought he was going to die, but a few hrs. later, he recovered. This has happened twice this week. I know that he might pass soon...but does anyone know what this is???

i have recently aquired a pair of peach faced lovebirds that are thought to be a year old. they are very happy with each other, feed and groom each other. question is: they love to be on the bottom of the cage chewing up newspaper and then hiding under it. also, one of them likes to roll paper up under itself (even folds a paper towel if I put it in the cage). the bird rolls the paper with its beak, stuffs it under himself, and them rocks back and forth on it. is this the male or the femal? is this behavior "O>K>"?? thanxs.

I recently adopted a Blue & Gold macaw who came with the name of "Pervert". He says his name and it actually fits him (don't ask! lol)

Should I change it? If so, what do you think I should change it to? :-)

How can I keep my talkative parakeet quiet during the day when I'm away at work? She can chirp pretty loud sometimes. I don't want this to be a concern to my neighbors in my new apt complex. Any suggestions?

Are goldfinches in California a migratory bird? I had a thistle feeder up for like 6 months, they finally found it and were emptying it every 2 days to where I had to buy a second one and there were still birds waiting their turn in the tree or on the ground. Now, there are suddenly NONE (when there used to be at least 10 every time I looked)
Are these birds migratory to central California, and if so, what month should I expect them to return?

My parakeets love to chirp and screech every single time that they see me doing homework. It especially drives me crazy when they start to constantly screech back and forth between each other even though they are sitting 5 inches from each other. Nothing keeps them quite. And then they seem all too happy from distracting me from doing my homework.

Is there any limit to a parakeets happiness?

Today I came home to find a note on the door. My father, wrote to me saying that the dog, Simon, most likely killed my Lovebird, Ryoma. I thought it was some cruel joke, how could the dog most likely kill my bird. He either did it or he didn't. It confused me, until I saw Ryoma's small body wrapped in a paper towel at the bottum of her cage. I'm so hurt right now, the pain I feel is so un-imagenable. I got Ryoma when she was only a few months old, she just turned one years old.. and now I'll never have her with me again. She was my friend and I loved her dearly. What's worse is the family dog killed her! Ryoma liked to escape from her cage to have fun time. Normally I watch her and let her out. She must've got out and that's how he got her. Normally I lock the cage with a wire, but she's had been so good about it lately.. I didn't tie it. I feel so stupid, If I had only stayed home this wouldn't have happened.

The female is older than the female. The female has just finished mulching, but the male had not even started. Do I have to wait untill the male mulches or will they lay eggs at all? they are both healthy, we even took them to the vet not long ago to get a checkup. (Oh, and the female seems to bite a lot. even before we got the male bird(he was all alone). Is that normal?)

Three times now she has completely clogged her water bottle. I use the water bottles that hang on the outside of the cage. she is 2.5 years old and this is the first time, starting a month ago, that she had a problem with the bottle. I tried moving it to see if she did not like the placement, but she still stuffed it full of seed. When I had a sand paper cover on her perch, which I always had before this to help trim her talons, she shredded that and crammed it in there. This bird also ate all the strings from her string toys and I had to remove them during this time. Could she be wanting to nest? 6 mos. ago I purchased another quaker, a male I believe, and while they are not caged together, I have been slowly introducing them. It has been successful with a watchful eye. Could that be the problem? I make sure to give her the primary attention. I am stumped. I have resorted to putting her water in a spare food dish. Thanks for any help or information you may have.

I just recently got a lovebird from a bird rescue shelter and they had no information on this bird. I have no idea how old it is or if it is a male or female. It is olive green with a black tail. The face is a lighter green. With peach on the top of the forehead. The colors are very dull. I am ausming it is female because I know males are very bright in color.

I was able to get him onto my finger and back into his cage. He was acting normal, but it looks as if he is bleeding. There is a very fine line between his nostrils there at the top of his beak, and I believe it is red, I don't know if it is cracked, cut, or what, and I am scared for him. Can anyone tell me if it is possible it is cracked, do you think he will be okay??!! I know he is not the first parakeet to fly into a closed window. I just want to know he is going to be okay. He is acting normal, should I just wait and let it heal? I am almost positive it is an injury from the window, though it is hard to see. It would really help if someone who has had a bird do this could give me some advice. Do you think it's a minor injury, or is it possible my bird's done cracked his little skull? I mean, he's not going to go to sleep and not wake up, is he???
