My cockatiel has been sick for a few months now. I took him to the vet and they gave me some medicine to treat an upper respiratory infection. My bird seemed to respond well to the medication but he still had labored breathing. The other day, I took him out of his cage and immediately began to loose his balance. He looked very weak, his beak felt cold and he couldn't keep his balance. I thought he was going to die, but a few hrs. later, he recovered. This has happened twice this week. I know that he might pass soon...but does anyone know what this is???

Every time he shows a bout of sickness, you NEED to take him to a certified avian vet immediately. If he's losing balance, he's desperately ill and you're jeopardizing his life every time you sit back and watch him stumble around in his sickness. Why would you just let him be so sick and die?

Get him to the vet if you really want to know what's wrong with him!

Hi, your cockatiel is dying. Do you have a certified avian vet? If not, call around your area and find one. The next time you see this happen could be the last. Birds do not act sick until they are extremely ill. If he's losing his balance and the such he is very very ill. It could be many things. You won't know until he's tested.

Have you added anything with scent to the room? A new carpet
air freshener, candle .Are you wearing any perfume, using a new laundry detergent, dryer sheet, any new cleaning supplies? Their respiratory system is so much more fragile than ours .Think to make sure you are not. Any new smell could do it.Good luck and take the little fellow to another vet if this one is not helping.

Your bird needs to see a certified Avian Vet ASAP!!

You need to set up a CLEAN hospital cage for him at 85 degrees until morning. Make sure he is eating and drinking.

GET HIM TO A VET BEFORE HE DIES!

While he is staying in the CLEAN hospital cage, you need to completely disinfect the normal cage, perches, food dishes, and toys. Or replace them. It sounds like he was reinfected in his cage.

I'm not sure what it could be, but do u know if he's skinny or not? If you don't know you need to check his pelvic bone now! That could be part of his problem.

KEEP HIM AWAY FROM THE LIQUOR CABINET. THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM.
