She has always had a cuddle bone, so that isn't the answer.

If she isn't using her cuttle bone (or the cuttle bone isn't helping), then you can get the beak clipped at an avian veterinarian. Its painless for the bird, and relatively cheap (you can get her claws clipped there while you are at it).

Its very important that you have it taken care of before it gets too long, or she will have some serious health issues.

Don't attempt to do it on your own, however. Its very dangerous for the bird if you clip the wrong place on the beak.

Good luck!

Healthy budgies don't usually require any trimming of their beak. Budgies are prone to liver problems, a symptom of which can overgrowth of the beak.

Have a vet that is experienced with birds trim the beak. If a liver disorder is the cause, it will grow back, so regular trimming may become necessary. The vet may even be able to show you how to maintain it yourself, using a dremel tool. Don't try it yourself without first being shown how to do it; beaks do have a blood supply and if you trim too much it is very painful and the beak will bleed.

Some birds don't really care for the cuddle bone if that's the case try giving it one of those parakeet treats they have one where it's hard as a rock and it's made of honey and bird food and fruits.

hmmm....the cuttle bone is not working?? You can take her to get it trimmed by a professional, usually an exotics vet, but it is very traumatic for them. If you have a Walmart or Petco/Petsmart...or pet store around, get her a treat stick. They attach to the side of the cage and are compact sticks that are about 1/2 inch wide and 2 inches long. They are made of seeds and things and are kind of hard. She will love them and it will trim her beak as she eats them. They are made by Kaytee and all Walmarts have them. You can also get them at some supermarkets. Trust me, they work really well. I have had that problem with one of my parakeets a long while ago. He used it and his beak starting to trim right away. We continue to give them to our birds, for fun and treats, but most importantly for beak health. I hope you find an anwer for her problem. Good luck

Yes, please definately see an avian certified vet (find one near you here: www.aav.org/vet-lookup ) If you don't take care of this soon, it will become a serious problem. your 'keet will not be able to eat! please don't try to do it yourself because beak tissue is very soft and it's easy to cut the wrong place and hit a blood vessel. for more information on bird care, i suggest you subscribe to BIRD TALK, it's a greatt magazine about pet birds and their care. hope this helps and good luck!

Well you should take it to the vet. They will file it for you. After you do that, buy a cuttlebone. Then she can file/trim her beak herself, then you wouldn't have to take her to the vet any more. You can get them at any pet store.

It is healthy for a parakeet to grow a big beak, if it grows too big then go to the vet.

Yes, take your bird to the vet to have it trimmed. It could also be an indicator of a bigger health problem, so have them do a full work-up.
