Today I came home to find a note on the door. My father, wrote to me saying that the dog, Simon, most likely killed my Lovebird, Ryoma. I thought it was some cruel joke, how could the dog most likely kill my bird. He either did it or he didn't. It confused me, until I saw Ryoma's small body wrapped in a paper towel at the bottum of her cage. I'm so hurt right now, the pain I feel is so un-imagenable. I got Ryoma when she was only a few months old, she just turned one years old.. and now I'll never have her with me again. She was my friend and I loved her dearly. What's worse is the family dog killed her! Ryoma liked to escape from her cage to have fun time. Normally I watch her and let her out. She must've got out and that's how he got her. Normally I lock the cage with a wire, but she's had been so good about it lately.. I didn't tie it. I feel so stupid, If I had only stayed home this wouldn't have happened.

I felt the same way last year when my lovebird died. her name was sunny. i had her for two years until our neighbor's cat killed her. sunny was dear to me. since sunny was really tame, i let her out in my room a lot. one day the window was open and i didn't notice. i still get mad at myself sometimes because of that mistake. sunny flew out, and the neighbor's cat pounced on her. and sunny died instantly. but my story's not over yet. one day i was mowing the lawn and the neighbor's cat came. i didn't see him coming so i accidently ran the mower over his tail and back left foot. His foot is better, but his tail is forever gone. sometimes that makes me feel a little better. ^.^

I am so sorry. But really, if you had stayed home today it might have happened another day. Sometimes we just don't realize how strongly Instincts run in our pets. Our cat Logan ate our son's favorite goldfish Tom. Tom was his favorite because he had survived not being eaten by the Angel Fish. We kept a wire mesh lid on the tank after that. My son was angry at the cat and cried over the loss. But that is the nature of animals.
Maybe that doesn't offer all the comfort you need with the loss of a much loved pet. But sometimes understanding helps us grieve with perspective. Tears can help express some of the pain. Be kind to yourself...
I'm glad Ryoma had a good life with you. In time you will be able to celebrate her life. We still remember Tom fondly. It will be the same with Ryoma. You loved her and made her very happy. Peace be with you.

Death is a cruel thing, it takes someone or something away and leaves us here to pick up the broken pieces.
Dogs have instincts and no matter what you do, they will always try and catch the bird sitting on the lawn or try to eat table scraps off the counter.
My advice to you is: do not blame yourself for an accident that no one could foreseen, and do not blame the dog for doing something that is inherent in its nature.
Take your time to mourn your beloved bird, I am sure she was the prettiest bird alive, and make amends with your dog. Otherwise you will hate him forever.
And then when you are over your bird, buy another one, but a different one, like a male of different colour or even a budgie, you know what I mean.
Good luck!

I sense the pain you are feeling right now, and the dog was likely just playing with your little friend and killed her by mistake. I know that this is painful to accept and you have my heartfelt sympathy but dogs like children don't always understand that what they are doing may cause harm. Your little Ryoma is in heaven now with God and is delighting all of the angels with her beautiful songs. I know that she is sad to have left you as well but she will wait for you to be with her in heaven one day. This was totally an accident and it wasn't your fault or anybody elses. You will be sad for quite a while and that is okay, because what you are going through is the grief of losing a loved one. God bless. Here is a poem that helped me with the death of my beautiful companion.
The Rainbow Bridge
There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth.
It is called the Rainbow bridge because of its many colours.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm spring weather.
The old and frail, birds and animals are young again.
Those who are maimed are made whole again.
They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing. There are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run, play and fly until the day comes when suddenly one looks up! The ears are up! The eyes staring! And this one runs suddenly from the group!
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you will take him or her in your arms and embrace.
Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

You have my sympathy! One of my dogs killed my budgie a few years back and we very very upset about it. It was a tragic accident and we blamed ourselves too, but when it comes down to it you cannot be on hand 14/7 to prevent such tragedies.

I so sorry for your loss....
I hope you won't beat yourself up over this. I do hope you can forgive your family's dog. I do know it will take a while. But you can look forward to giving another little bird a better life when you are ready....
Take care....

An animal might desire to no longer be waiting to get in, yet i'm specific people can. regardless of in case you had your cage locked with something like a key lock or combination lock of any variety, i be attentive to folk who can %. it in a millisecond. you may desire to no longer additionally be attentive to the guy, people might nicely be merciless, incredibly childrens. i be attentive to of somebody who had her cat killed from a random man or woman, in basic terms simply by fact he/she might desire to. next time, shop the birds in the homestead.
