About Livestock and Farm Animal Regulations

The keeping of farm animals is generally regulated under zoning, including the number and kinds allowed in urban areas. The underlying premise of most of the restrictions on livestock within urban areas relates to keeping them off public property, controlling noise and smell, and providing for adequate living conditions. Livestock is generally defined to include horses, mules, jackasses, cattle, sheep, llama, goats, and swine.

Definitions may also include other animals such as poultry and rabbits. Some jurisdictions subdivide livestock into categories of large and small livestock.
For general information, see Small Animals and Livestock Information Services Bulletin (36 KB) - Information Bulletin prepared by King County Department of Development and Environmental Services.

No'you don't- but if you are in council or rented accommodation- there may be some restrictions. Also, if you have grumpy neighbours they may complain if you have a cockerel. Of course, you won't need the cockerel to have eggs from your chickens- they will lay regardless. I can't understand why there are so few people keeping chickens in their gardens- great way to use up scraps- they recycle them into eggs!

My family had 7 chickens in our backyard in the suberbs for 6 years, the onle problem was having too many eggs. And since we gave eggs to our neighbors no one ever complaned. WITHOUT A LICENCE.

I would check with you local council deparment. If you do not own your house (rented, council etc) then you will definatly need permission from the land owner.

If you contact the council they will also let you know about any other things you may need doing (like regular visits from the pest department to check the birds and place rat traps)

you don't need a license per se, but you will have to check with your city's ordinances regarding barnyard animals within the city's limits. some considered chickens barnyard, some don't. call your government information line and ask what your city's zoning ordinance is.

Depends on local regulations.

If you have them as pets and for a few eggs you shouldn't need one.

If you plan to have plenty and to sell them to make money...then yes.

In France you have to declare every and any birds you have!
