Hello,
I need some suggestions. Which is better to get, an African Grey or a Cockatoo? Which is a better pet? Which is easier to train? Please help! Thanks! : )

it depends on what you are looking for in a bird as these two species are quite different. Every bird is different, but as a general rule cockatoos are love sponges who love to be held and given affection. You have to have a lot of time to spend with a cockatoo or they can develop negative behaviors such feather plucking or excessive screaming. I have a moluccan cockatoo and would not trade him for anything and would recommend one as a pet for the right person, but they are definitely not for everyone which is proven by the number of cockatoos you find in rescues.

African greys as a rule are less affectionate but can also develop negative behaviors such as feather plucking if not kept mentally stimulated as they are extremely smart. They can be quite entertaining if you get a good talker.

If you have a rescue in your area, you should check them out as you can often find a great birds that need homes

Depends on how much time and affection you have. Cockatoos are snuggle bugs. Grey's are great talkers but are not that affectionate. Remember that parrots are a HUGE and expensive commitment. Repetition, repetition, repetition is the key with teaching them to talk. I had an umbrella cockatoo and an African Grey - the cockatoo was a real lover but she got aggressive at 2 years old. You have to be consistent with your time. Good Luck

The African grey is the best talker and highly intelligent....Cockatoos are beautiful...but can become aggressive and territorial...sometimes they develop a habit of plucking their feathers if they are upset....and once they start..it pretty much no stopping them......I truly think the Mullucan Cockatoo and Rosies are the most beautiful of all birds....

both birds you mentioned are wonderful....but before you buy one..you really should read up on both and see which one would be best suited for you....there are articles all over the web....see the pro's and con's...on each... than make your decision........

Hi it really depends on what is going to fit your life style.. I have a Goffins and he is so cute very cuddly and loving but he only likes me he is afraid of everyone else and will jump off his cage or play stand whenever anyone gets to close to him causing him to break feathers :(.. I also own a Timneh African Grey.. He loves everyone and everybody gets kisses from him the Goffins and him are becoming friends... I also own an Eclectus who will go to anyone and loves everything.. He is very very affectionate and quiet entertaining.. But he doesn't really care to share a play stand with anyone he is the alpha male.. Both the Eclectus and the Timneh talk some days I wish they would be quiet lol.. The Goffins is starting to pick up a couple of words.. I would recommend an Eclectus male they are much sweeter than the females and they bond to the whole family... Just do some research and see what is going to work best for you.. Make sure that whatever you get gets his check up right away and quarantine.. Good luck

African Greys learn much quicker in my opinion. I am a bird lover and out of the two, I would go with the African Grey although I love both. My sister just bought one with red tipped tail and he is talking already at 3 months old and is so friendly.

They both have deep emotional needs (and issues).

Did you know parrots go through a terrible two stage?
