Three times now she has completely clogged her water bottle. I use the water bottles that hang on the outside of the cage. she is 2.5 years old and this is the first time, starting a month ago, that she had a problem with the bottle. I tried moving it to see if she did not like the placement, but she still stuffed it full of seed. When I had a sand paper cover on her perch, which I always had before this to help trim her talons, she shredded that and crammed it in there. This bird also ate all the strings from her string toys and I had to remove them during this time. Could she be wanting to nest? 6 mos. ago I purchased another quaker, a male I believe, and while they are not caged together, I have been slowly introducing them. It has been successful with a watchful eye. Could that be the problem? I make sure to give her the primary attention. I am stumped. I have resorted to putting her water in a spare food dish. Thanks for any help or information you may have.

This is interesting. It sounds like you have a very smart bird. Perhaps, she needs more challenges. I have put foraging tools in my bird's world. You can cut small pieces of wax paper wrap food and treats and twist the ends, I have stuffed pine cones with food held in with peanut butter, There are puzzle toys that help. I put food in small empty baby aspirin boxes, plastic Easter eggs filled with dried fruits, and cholla wood stuffed with treats. These are cheap easy versions and my bird likes to destroy the "toys" I make. Rotate her toys even her favs. Maybe she may stop messing with the water bottle. The cup is a drag. The poop soup thing. Bummer. Just another thought. Since these birds are monomorphic, 1-800-625-0874 is Veterinary Diagnostics Center. For around 20 bucks they will sex your bird.I did mine. My he is now a she!! Thelonius Monk, what a name. They will send you a free kit with instructions. I used the chest feather technique, toweled my bird, covered her face and plucked 5 chest feathers with tweezers. It was mildly annoying to her. No major trauma.May things improve and you have a great year.

I have a Quaker as well... I use dishes now mine used to do the same thing and now she can't clog up the dishes... but get the kinda that attach to the cage that way u can put it up higher on the cage so no poop can get in it . My Quaker seems to be very clingy to her cage wants her toys where she wants and such I will put them in the cage and she will move them where ever she wants.. mine likes anything with bells so try that... Good luck Amanda

She is just an active bird! My Indian Ringneck does the same thing. I keep water bottles and dishes for her.

I agree with getting her foraging toys. Dr's Foster and Smith has some great ones.

She seems to be using her water bottle as a toy. Quakers are very active. Guess you will have to use a dish for her water. My Moluccan coackatoo used to stuff seed in the hole of the lock on his cage (have to lock it, he opens the door). Birds are funny!!
