Vegetables are an important part of a bird's diet. Veggies offer a variety of nutrients that your bird needs to survive. Fruit is important as well, but it is full of sugar and can be fattening, though some fruits are so rich in nutrients, they are worth the calories. Feed produce that is dark green and orange in color - these items are rich in vitamin A, a nutrient that your cockatiel needs for good respiratory health. Here's a list of vegetables and fruit you can offer every day. Remember, variety is key - offer as many as you can of these items daily:

asparagus
beet tops
beets (raw or cooked)
broccoli
brussel sprouts
carrots (raw or cooked)
celery
chard
collard greens
corn
dandelion
endive
green beans
green pepper
jalapenos
kale
mustard greens
peas
pumpkin
red pepper
spinach
watercress
yams (cooked)
yellow pepper
yellow squash
zucchini

apples
apricots
bananas
berries
cantaloupe
cherries
figs
grapefruit
grapes
honeydew
kiwi
mango
oranges
papaya
peaches
pear
pineapple
plums
watermelon

There are some fruits that almost all birds can consume. These include apples, oranges and papayas. Apple seeds and avocados however are toxic to almost all pet birds so be careful. If you are willing to do a little bit of research, find out where your pet bird comes from and what it eats in the wild. You can get it those fruits if you come across them.. Can't go wrong with that..

You have to watch what you feed them because different birds have a different digestive system. Smaller birds like grapes, not raisins(raisins get stuck in their throat and could choke the bird). The also like pieces of strawberries and black berries,(only small pieces).Larger birds like the same thing but they eat broccoli, lettuce, celery, and carrots.Hope I've helped!

dark leafy greens such as kale and collard greens are excellent for birds if you can get them to eat them. my birds like carrots, sweet pea pods, hot peppers, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes and different kinds of beans. Fruits are high in sugar and should be offered in limited quantities. Grapes, bananas, oranges, apples (no seeds, they can be toxic), and pears are my birds favorites. Stay away from avacados as they are poisonous to birds.

You can also try dehydrated fruit. it lasts longer and my birds like the crunchy texture.I give them alot of gerber baby dehydrated fruit as its made for babies so there is not alot of sugar in it.Also alot of health food stores like trader joes or wild oats carry dried strawberries and cranberrys that mine love. Note they also carry dried veggies. Good luck!
