me and my brother found a bird nest and he got an egg out of the nest, even tho i told him not to because the mom wants it back. he wants to know what he can do to make it hatch and surive without its bird mom.

he didnt keep the nest because it was breaking up as he took it out from the tree branches. he thinks they eat worms from when they r just babies bit im not going to be searching for worms in the yard!

its really small now. its about 1-2 centermetres in length and about 1 cm in width. its all white but the bottom and top of the egg are clear white.

he has it near our cats belly to make it warm but i dont think it is helping.

what do we need to feed it if it hatched? how long until it does hatch? what do we do if it doesnt hatch at all? should we give it back to its mom? what do we do with it?

i dont kno what type of bird it was but it was brown with black spots and a very big chest with a medium wing span.

Same thing happened to me when I was young. We put the egg in a small box, kept it well padded with cloth, and covered. We also used a heat lamp.

Needless to say, it didn't work.

But good luck!! Let us know if it hatches!!

ALSO. DON'T LEAVE IT ALONE WITH THE CAT! IT MIGHT BREAK THE EGG & THAT WILL MAKE A MESS!

PS- Don't let your little brother mess with birds nests anymore. And make sure you wash your hands.

Whatever happened to kids who simply wait for the egg to hatch and feed the mum with worms so she can bring them back to her chicks?

Forget about the egg. Let's hope birds get clever enough not to nest anywhere your brother can reach.
Before he learns to incubate an egg, teach him some sense.
And who's bright idea was it to put the egg nest to the cat so the CAT can incubate the egg? Nevermind. Don't answer that..

If the eggs aren't kept at an exact temperature they die very quickly. Chances are they're gone. Let them go boys. Cat bellies probably aren't warm enough.

On the unlikely chance it survives, you should contact a wildlife center for info.

Also, birds have a very poor sense of smell, it's egg position the mom checks for. Most songbirds won't care if you replace the egg.

Don't play with bird eggs.

Ok lets see I wouldnt give it back to its mother because if you do then the mother will reject the eggs after smelling human scent of them and confuse the mother you should et in contact with a wild refuge center and they can tell you what to do. ever state has them every where you just dont here about then that much. and you need to put it in a box on a towel with a tea towel covering it that should keep it warm enough untill you can get it there for the future dont play with bird eggs :)

if you touched the egg with bare hands. the mom will not become back because of the human scent. Maybe you could take like a heating pad and put it on the egg. Do some reasearch online about birds and find some information on their babies and stuff. Just don't give it back to the mom if you touched it.

If it is kept in an incubator at the right temperature and turned regularly it can. But left on its own it will get too cool and die fairly quickly. If you have found abandoned bird eggs they are probably already dead, just leave them alone.

chances are that it isn't going to hatch. if they egg got to cold the baby most likely didn't survive. you would need a incubator and something soft for it to sit on. you'd be best off taking it to a wildlife rescue.

keep it warm, but don't expect it to hatch. if it does you should really contact a wildlife rehabilitation center to get it proper care. don't keep it as a pet.
