Years ago a family friend used to make the best potato pie (white, not sweet) with bits of bacon or ham. She has long since passed and I was wondering if anyone out there has a real good, tastey potato pie recipe?

My turkey came with a plastic insert that is pinned inside the cavity that holds the leg bones togehter. Can I cook it with this or do I have to discard it and then tie the legs together with cooking twine instead? I am scared the plastic will melt.

The recipe I am using is 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup white sugar, 4 eggs, 1 tsp vannila, 1 unbaked pie shell, 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar, 1 Tbsp flour, 1 cup light corn syrup and 1 1/2 cups pecans. The author recommends cooking this at 325 degrees for 50 mins or until set. I have now cooked it 80 mins and it is still jiggly in the middle. I have covered the top with foil for the last 30 mins because it looks brown enough. Any suggestions? Are they suppose to jiggle in the middle until completely cooled?

I am making fried chicken, and the recipe calls for the chicken to boil first for 30 min. along with some seasonings. Can the water be used to make a soup afterwards? If so, how should I go about doing so? I have never made homemade soup before, but I've heard it's a breeze.
Thanks for all your answers!

Attn: My mother-in-law is incredibly critical. Does it matter as far as freshness goes? I almost think doing it tonight would be best, because if its bad, I have plenty of time to go to the store and buy one....

My daughter is making Christmas candy again this year but she likes to make different kinds every year. It can be anything. But please, NO recipe web sites. I already have many of them. I am looking for recipes that are tried and true, that you have made, that have been tested.

Oh, I forgot to say that she is making many different kinds and putting them into one box. So don't think I'm looking for just one kind, although I do have to pick just one to win the 10 pts.

I have looked around the Internet finding a receipe with peanut oil, but without success. I don't want to fry the turkey but I heard by using peanut oil it makes the turkey much juicier. I would be very thankful if you could give me a tip.
