Plenty of good answers. I can never decide that myself. Here's the key: You can't cook a pie at one temp, and a turkey at another if you only have one oven. If you do the pie tonight, you won't have to worry about it in the morning.
I understand about the critical mother-in-law (I have one of those). I'm usually dismissive about mine.
MIL: "This pumpkin pie isn't very good."
Me: "You don't think so? That's great. Don't eat anymore and then there will be plenty for me."
MIL: "That must be why you're a little heavier this year."
Me: "That's not why. It's because I sit on the couch and watch too much football. But, I just can't find the time to exercise because I'm drunk all the time."

You should be fine if you make it today. Call me crazy, but I have to say that pie tastes better the second day (assuming no moisture gets to the pie) One trick to the pie is to make your own whipped cream. Its easy, just beat heavy cream and add some sugar to taste. You can even get a little more flavor by adding a little vanilla extract. You can definitely taste the quality of the cream, and maybe that will make you Mother-in-law even happier. Good Luck!

hahahahaha... Depends on what you're cooking tomorrow too...will you have time to make it tomorrow morning?
I'd just be on the safe side and make it tonight....this way you won't feel so rushed and you will be able to get some sleep because you won't be worried about it! It will be fresh, just make sure you cover it up nice & tight! Good Luck.... Let your mother in law be critical, if she makes a comment, tell her to do it herself next year!

Make it tonight. It will give the flavors time to blend as it sits overnight, and will taste much better than if you bake it in the morning. Also, it will free up a lot of time for you tomorrow!
Have a nice Thanksgiving!

Make the pie the day before. It needs time to chill to congeal. Pumpkin pie is a type of custard pie.

Agreed, make it tonight and get it over with. Pies, cakes, and casseroles almost always get done the night before if not earlier because they freeze well and you need the oven to make the turkey or ham anyway.

Oh I had one of them Mother-In-Laws. She's now an EX Mother in law.. called an 'Out-Law!'
Best to try tonight. But why even bother doing anything to try to impress her, it will never work.

I always bake my pies the night before and put them in the fridge. Don't put whipped topping on tonight if you like it on the pie. Good Luck!

I would definitely make it today. It will still be very fresh for tomorrow. Otherwise, you will be rushing around like a mad woman trying to get everything done at once and you won't be able to enjoy (or not enjoy) your company.
