...get married on my fiance's grandparent's wedding anniversary? My fiance' and I are having a Autumn '09 wedding with an Old English feel. He proposed on October 19, and we were considering that as the date when we found out that was when his grandparents were married. The reason we were considering that day (besides the fact that he proposed on that day) was because in our area the color is usually beautiful by that time, and isn't too cold, which is important for our outdoor wedding.

I'm 21 and getting married in April of next year. My first two offers were right after I got engaged back in April of this year. My maid of honor has just mentioned about a month ago throwing me one and we have been best friends for about 9 years now. The 2 that offered is a bridesmaid I've known for about 2 years and the other is my great aunt. I don't want to hurt her feelings, but I just don't think that I would have enough people to invite for 3 showers.

I seem to be getting conflicting answers via google. One article even seemed to be saying the best man pays for all the tux's. Another says he just pays for his own. What's going on out there in the real world and what is your experience?

I just got my dress tonight and I tried it on and the top is too big! It's a halter style top and I was wondering if maybe the button holes that hold the straps on could be moved down more to keep my top up. But then wouldn't it bunch up and gap? I just need someone to take in the top of the top so it will stay up. The wedding is Jan 19th, 08, do you think it will be done in time? I need help.

Oh and what is the experience like getting it altered?

Me and three girls are getting our hair done for my wedding. The hairstylist is charging $55 per girl and $75 for travel, she has to drive about an 45 min each way.

In a situation like this, do you tip the hairstylist? I kind of feel like since I am paying for her travel time and gas, that it wouldn't be necessary but maybe I am wrong.

Please don't say ask her. The answer will be "tips are not required but appreciated". I want to know what most people do.

This is the first wedding for both of us. Our wedding date is May 10. We have made no concrete plans in my hometown. We don't want to tell EVERYONE about the wedding because we want to keep the option of eloping and having a party after the ceremony.

It's problematic because:

-We both have family that live abroad.
-We are paying for the wedding ourselves.
-We do not have a lot of time to take for a honeymoon.
-There are several people in my family who are ill and cannot travel, and may pass away before May 10.
-My hometown is 400 miles away. But, every generation of our family has lived there (and been married there) for more than 300 years.
-Our families have not met (only our mothers have met).
-Both sets of parents are divorced and still annoy one another.
-We are over 30 years old, have been dating for two years, and live together.
-My grandfather, who lives near my hometown, is a minster and would like to officiate the ceremony.

What would you do?

I would prefer to have a Friday wedding because it's cheaper. However, I know they are somewhat inconvienent for guests who work.

I was thinking about having the date be Friday July 3, 2009. This is the day before the 4th and a majority (not all) of people might have the day off/half day. I thought this might be more convenient for guests in terms of not being rushed and being able to enjoy themselves more.

However, it will also be a holiday weekend.

What do people think?

My fiance and I lived together, moved to a different state together, built a house together, and THEN starting ring shopping and wedding plans. We had been planning on getting married, but wanted to build our house first, etc. We never would have done any of that together had we not already agreed on marriage, but I still wanted an offical proposal and he still wanted to give it to me.

So, after a month of ring shopping he actually managed to surprise me with the ring of my dreams, and we were "officially" engaged!

The problem was, I had to start wedding planning before that date, since we were planning on getting married in about 6 months ( and wedding dresses take forever to order, I couldnt buy off the rack because of my size, places book up, etc, you know the drill ) and poeple treated me like I was a little girl playing dressup! I mean, nobody treated me like I was actually getting married, they would literally come out and ask where my ring was!

My fiance and I will be living overseas and dont need traditional gifts. But we really could use cash! How can we politely ask the guests at our wedding to gift us cash instead of presents?

When will I get the best deals on engagment rings...before or after christmas? And...are there any other tips for purchasing a ring that anyone has?

We've been together nearly 3 years. He makes about 50 grand a year, and so do I. We spend more on groceries every week than he spent on this ring. This is what he wants me to wear forever? It's already coroding and changing color 2 months after he proposed. Why would he do this? Does this mean it's not real to him, or am I just being superficial? Is this all I'm worth to him? Is it really possible he just doesn't get it? (He did get me a $5 wal-mart watch for our first valentie's day, and I wore it everyday because i loved him so much.)

My soon to be sister in law wants me to sing for her and my brother's wedding. I want something sweet but not something that's overdone. Any suggestions?

why do women in this forum make it seem like even *wanting* a bridal shower is a really bad thing? almost every bride wants a shower...

my sister is my maid of honor and she has no clue what to do, she's only 21 and has never even been to a wedding before. so she asked me what her duties are and I told her what they are including the hosting the shower. so she hosted it and was totally happy to do so. i was a little more involved in the planning of my own shower than is "normal" by ettiquette standards, she didn't know my bridesmaids and felt stupid not knowing anything about weddings, so she asked me EVERYTHING.

i think if someone is your maid of honor and you can't say to them "i want a bridal shower" then maybe they shouldn't be your maid of honor...

My brother is engaged to a really awful girl whom I really hate, but I don't want to cause a family fued by boycotting their wedding. And I don't hate her just to hate her...
1. they've only been dating 10 months; 2. she has cheated on him twice; 3. she was about to break up with him but then he got a really good job with lots of benefit; 4. she has made no effort to even be polite to me or my mother; 5. she is a whore.

Should I just bite my tongue or try to stop my brother from making the biggest mistake of his life?
