Me and three girls are getting our hair done for my wedding. The hairstylist is charging $55 per girl and $75 for travel, she has to drive about an 45 min each way.

In a situation like this, do you tip the hairstylist? I kind of feel like since I am paying for her travel time and gas, that it wouldn't be necessary but maybe I am wrong.

Please don't say ask her. The answer will be "tips are not required but appreciated". I want to know what most people do.

Yes, I would tip her. For the cost of the service only! 10-20%, 10 being if she does the job hired to do with no issues and 20 if she is fun. I tip my stylist 20% on all services because she is fun, engaging, makes me feel like I am being pampered and really listens and tries to please me. So if she is doing all that then yes tip her 20%. Just doing her job 10%. Congrats.

I would tip her $40, she's a stylist performing her usual services, so you tip around 20%. The travel money is a separate issue and you don't need to tip for that. Also, paying her for her travel doesn't excuse you from tipping her. $55 is not that much for updos. Depending on where you live it is over double that amount.

Well, I can understand where you are coming from on that one. I would tip her like $5 per girl and $10 for yours. She is making a trip, but getting paid for it. $75 seems a little steep for traveling 45 minutes. Good luck and congrats!

On a personal services item (hair dresser, nail tech, waiter/waitress) you tip if you're pleased with the service. If you'd normally tip, I say go ahead. The travel fee is just that and I probably would not include that in the amount I used to figure a tip.

Tip her no matter what! That's great that she's willing to travel to the location, mine wouldn't...(and I've been going to her for years, it's only about 10 minutes from my parents house...but she had another wedding so I understood...) But anyhow, let her know how much you appreciate her traveling, and make sure all the girls know they need to tip the stylist! (If they're paying for their own).

Unless she really just rocks your socks off I wouldn't tip her.....as long as she's not your regular stylist. Then you might want to toss her a twenty so she doesn't "oops" next time she does your hair.

$75 for two hours (I'll be generous and say she hits traffic) PLUS charging the full set price for each girl seems pretty excessive. I know gas is expensive these days but really.....

If this is someone you normally go to, yes! If this is someone your only hiring for the wedding, every single penny you give her is going into her pocket. If you felt in some way she went above what she said she would do, or did a better then expected job, then yes. If you feel she did a good job, but nothing over what your are already paying her, then no!

If you are happy with the service then tip her. If you are unhappy don't. Since it's for your wedding I'm sure you're going to look great so I guess you'll be tipping her, no body want to ruin a brides wedding day.

$55 per girl is steep, but that's her price (which you already knew). The $75 for travel is a bit ridiculous (more than a buck a minute!) but nowadays people find ways to charge for everything...

I'd tip her about $15-20 and call it a day

Congrats!

If this is a hairstylist that is half way decent then yes you tip. If they do a bad job, no don't tip.
