they only use them in arkansas and mississippi.in the city we use hand guns or knives. and in central/south america they use machetes.it all started in arkansas:

Depends on what you mean. Actual shotgun weddings mean the girl is pregnant, and her father is forcing her and the guy to grow up and get married. How that term came into being was the father would take his daughter and gun, go get the guy and make him get married but a judge. I know of one situation where this actually happened. The couple later divorced, but the woman never did remarry or get pregnant out of wedlock again. I'd say she learned her lesson.

If you are talking about military weddings, any military ceremony involves shotguns or rifles. Not sure which they use.

This is just an old joke from many moons ago. When it used to be said that when a girl got pregnant, her father would get out the shotgun to ensure he took the culprit to the church and married her.The fear of being shot ensured he did the right thing
Thus the term used for a pregnant bride " A shotgun wedding "

Traditionally a shotgun wedding wasn't a good thing. Meant the bride was pregnant and her father was forcing the marriage.
